Andreas appeared outside the Ameraid Fountain looking across the courtyard to see that it was almost completely empty. There were a few people sitting on the Giant Sized staircases huddled in groups of quiet discussion. Andreas looked around at his surroundings. He had been at Koalingo for three years now and nothing seemed different on this day to any other he had spent at the school.
He heaved his bags onto his back. They were quite full and rather heavy, thankfully though he had mastered a levitation spell by the end of his first year and had sought out such a way to charm his bags to constantly levitate at a height he thought appropriate. In this he was able to carry his bags as if they were almost completely weightless. Unfortunately the charm did not last for long periods of time and so he would have to recast the charm every ten minutes or so.
Today was actually Sunday morning, which meant that he didn’t actually have any classes to attend. Most Ameraid’s spent their weekends studying in their private quarters, and normally Andreas would be the same. Today however he thought it might be a good day to spend in the light of the sun. That and he was beginning to pale, which was always an ominous sign.
He heaved his bags across the courtyard and came to rest on the second step from the bottom. There was no breeze to be felt at all, and so no fear for losing his belongings. He scattered them about the step in an order which made sense to him and set to work almost at once.

“Not on Sunday morning,” Elouise said to herself as she was getting back from her morning constitution. She had been running, no one else in her house got up this early on Sunday morning and while Emerindyl Lake was great to run around, she also quite liked watching the sun rise over the school grounds and so had taken to, in recent times, running along the boundary of the castle wall.
She walked towards the studying Ameraid knowing he probably wouldn’t appreciate being interrupted but she knew it was far to nice a morning to be studying anyway. She looked up the stairs at him when she came to a rest at the bottom of the stairs. Her skin was glowing with her exertions and she was looking up at him while drinking from the bottle she had strapped to her wrist.
“Top of the morning,” she called with a friendly smile as she greeted him, hoping he would return the gesture.

Andreas had considered much earlier on that if someone did interrupt him while he was working, he would tell them to go away, when he looked up and saw the girl whose face he had seen many times, but had never known her name, he stalled just a little without realising he had, “Good morning,” he said thinking of nothing smarter or cooler to say. She had to be in the grade above him, he was sure of it.
He didn’t really know what else to say, she hadn’t given him much more to go on then a greeting and he really wasn’t the kind that could carry a conversation confidently. He merely looked, hoping she would not find this too odd. He was a fairly shy person.

Elouise found humour in the boy’s quiet reaction, he was an Ameraid, what more could she expect, he would not be like the Saphricorn boys who would normally all start showing off or trying to prove that they were something of a Casanova. Elouise liked this in the boy and thou8ght that she might be loud enough for the both of them, and besides, a greeting was good, for a start at least, that was more then she had expected.
”What’s that you have there?” she asked him, knowing full and well it was his homework, she didn’t know why he was doing it, she was sure if he had been in Emerindyl it was probably because it was due the next day and he hadn’t touched it yet, but being in Ameraid she could only feel that it was probably not due for a month or two and that he could be doing much more fun things with his time.
’Some people and their priorities,’ she thought to herself as she waited politely for an answer, with a friendly smile and a curious glance in her eyes.

Andreas knew some people thought Emerindyl’s were not very sharp, not quite as slow as Saphricorn students, but not as sharp as Ameraid students at the very least. Andreas confirmed this when it appeared this Emerindyl did not understand that the books and paper and writing utensils and charts scattered around him were quite obviously homework. He didn’t begrudge the Emerindyl for her ignorance though and maintained a positive external while speaking to her.
”Just some assignments I want to get out of the way, you know how it goes?” he said to her thinking she probably did not know how it went. Emerindyl’s were not exactly famous for their school work, especially when it came to things that were not yet due for a couple of weeks. Andreas did not begrudge her this either. He knew he was speaking with an Emerindyl, and so had to fight not to speak to her slowly.
”Must have ones priorities in order, of course, work hard now and there will be plenty of time for play later,” he said to her, and smiled, he had heard some Emerindyl’s did not respond well to sudden movements so he did not pursue the conversation further, allowing her to make that decision.

Elouise knew perfectly well the Ameraid in front of her had been doing his homework, she had just thought it was much more polite to ask rather then just assume. Elouise had always heard that Ameraid’s were a little confused about how much smarter they thought they were to everyone else, and this was confirmed when she heard a touch of condescension in the boy’s words. It was barely audible, but enough for her to see it, he was humouring her and that hurt slightly, ’who does he think he is.’
’I knew it,’ she thought to herself as she stood there watching him politely though now not feeling as friendly as she had when she approached him in the first place. Ameraids were of course, famous for getting all of their work done very quickly, which meant they were just given more work, which meant they learned more, but meant they just had to work harder. Elouise understood how this could make them bitter towards the rest of the school, she would be too if people doing half as much work as she were getting the same grades…
”Ah but of course, always a good plan if you actually have a life to be getting on with once all of your work is done,” she smiled as politely as he, but she knew what she meant, and did wonder for the briefest of moments if he understood also, she was liking this Ameraid less and less for his attitude.

Andreas nearly smiled when he could see the girl’s thoughts. He liked a woman that could understand things as they sat and this Elouise understood almost at once that he was being a jerk. He didn’t need to be nice to the likes of this one. She was a trophy wench, just like any other. Absolutely nothing going on upstairs and only interested in her outward appearance. Why else would she have been on a run that morning? To try and maintain a figure that would have boy’s chasing after her. Unfortunately for her, Andreas though a mind was as attractive as a body, and this girl was very clearly stupid.
“I told you who I am, I am Andreas Mark,” he said when he heard her thoughts of ‘who does he think he is,’ he thought he might at least remind this one that he knew what she was thinking. He didn’t like her. He didn’t care if she liked him. She was intellectually inferior to him and he did not need to be humouring her when there were more important things to be getting on with.
But then of course she said what she thought was something of an insult. How crude.
“Subtle,” he said to her before totally ignoring her and going back to his homework. He would not try to fence with this one. She was beneath him. A pity though. The more he thought about it and the more he looked at the delicious body she had crafted for herself, the more he decided he wouldn’t mind her beneath him.
