Mood souring rapidly as he waded through the excess of Ameraids present in the library at all hours, Barnak finally managed to reach the restricted section. He didn't walk straight up to it, of course. He stopped at the section adjacent and proceeded to look through the titles on the shelves before him, taking some out, even reading a few pages before putting them back and looking at the next. He made rather a decent effort of looking like he was after something specific. Eventually, as it seemed that nobody was paying him any particular attention, he made his way to the end of the shelving and peered around the corner into the restricted area. He knew for a fact that the door wasn't always locked. Occasionally, during the day, one of the more absent-minded librarians just used a simple 'aromahola' spell to keep the door from swinging open by itself. Unfortunately for school rules, Barnak had been watching said librarian, and had recorded his working hours.
Barnak used the basic unlocking charm and, with one final glance about, slipped into the restricted section of the library. He knew he only had a few moments. He pulled a slip of parchment from his pocket. Roughly sketched rectangles showed him which shelves he should focus on, and he selected three of the thickest volumes. Then he slipped the parchment back into his robes and gave a quick flick of his wand.

A pointy little creature with devious, sparkling eyes appeared beside his master and took the books that were being handed to him before he had even appeared. Occasionally, Binky wondered if he would be picking up even more things from the floor than he did already if he weren't always so punctual. But that was all just part of being a good servant - never letting your master notice the work you do - and Binky was proud of being a good servant... to the right master.
Several times his own weight, the dusty volumes caused him to half-squat to accommodate them. He paused a moment as the boy looked down at him and, in a rare move, silently made and held eye contact. It only lasted a moment, and then his master was already disappearing out of the gate that barred the library's restricted section and around the corner into another area of shelving.
Binky stumbled, regained his balance, and then quickly disappeared while he still held all three books, leaving nothing behind but a puff of dust and the impression of a distant sneeze.

He didn't often look at servants. They were usually beneath his notice. But there was something inscrutable in the elf's eyes that intrigued Barnak as he looked down at them.
He didn't ponder it for long, and after a moment he slipped back through the gate and into the shelving where he had been standing previously, a book in his hand within seconds, glancing over it to make sure nobody had been watching. Another flick of his wand shut and locked the gate and, after a suitable pause, he headed toward the front desk of the library, borrowed the useless book he was carrying, and headed for his rooms.

"Master will want to know about this" Tonkin said from where he was standing shelving some books his master had booked out from the restricted section a week prior. He had managed to blend in when he felt another house elf coming, "Master has told Tonkin not to trust his fellows," he said before snapping his fingers and disappearing.
