The review forum was still locked so I thought I might post this here:
My Opinion.
Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince. The Movie.
Well... I approached this one not having read the book for some time. This, I feel gives me the opportunity to look at this movie as a movie, and not as an adaptation of a book I know and love.
Admittedly I like the first part. And by saying the first part, I mean the part before Dumbledore and Harry go to the cave, for it seems hardly any time has past through the year, except for a couple of Quiddith debarkles, a meal or two, an awkward moment or four, and a whole bunch of seemingly pointless chatting. Throughout the beginning of the movie, it seems almost as if the movie is still beginning, and that happens until the movie ends abruptly, somewhat like Dumbledore's life.
I hand it to the movie makers. They have done some really fantastic things with the latest installment of Harry Potter films, HOWEVER. They tripped at the finish line. This was all turning out to be my favourite installment yet...
Until they stuffed it all up.
1. The cave scene could have been so much more dramatic.
2. SO much more dramatic.
3. Unbelievably so much more dramatic.
4. Dumbledore's death? WHAT THE HELL WAS THAT. Are you kidding me? I felt more choked up when I dropped my breakfast on the floor this morning and knew I didnt have enough time to cook something else before leaving for work.
5. Um... corridor scene? Massive magical battle between the Order of the Phoenix/The DA and the deatheaters?? SO MUCH MORE ENTERTAINMENT than the burning burrow. Which. By the way. Never happened in the book. And contains little to no value to the plotline. ESPECIALLY when the weasley children seem so pumped up on hormones that the loss of their home seems to bare no importance.
6. WHERE THE HELL was the funeral scene. Are you kidding me? No one cares about your latest set atop the astronomy tower (which was way overused through the film I might add) WHERES THE RESPECT. A funeral was neccessary, HAVE YOU EVEN READ THE BOOKS??? If you had, you'd know this.
I just dont feel that this movie ever climaxed. And if it wasnt meant to... if it was meant to be a lead up to the final movie(s) than shame on you. You got two bloody films from the final book.
Use it well.
