“One, two… three… four…. I know I am forgetting something,” Rea was stuck. It was that and that alone that made her feel stupid this afternoon. She had been moving through the secret passages looking for the right alcove though was lost to the possibility that she had stuffed up big time. This was not the right alcove at all, and from the sight’s she could see through the cracks in the stone, which were probably peak holes for the days of castle battles; she could see that she was not even on the right side of the castle.
“No no, this is completely wrong,” she stopped and stood there with a glum lip and a look that could melt ice. She was almost sad, and a little frustrated. She knew if she was found here she would look like an idiot. But then who was to know that she didn’t mean to be on this exact spot? Really?
She was rejuvenated by the thought and started again moving along the winding corridors until she came to a dead end.
“Great… so what now? Turn around?”

“Shake the knight’s right hand and stop on his left foot. Then it’s the first right, second left, first right then the fifth right, then right, left, right, left, left, spin counter clock wise twice and tap the third brick of the left on the seventh row up.”
Lara had had some spare time in between lunch and her afternoon class so she had spent some time mingling and talking with other students, all of whom seemed to only groan about the course work level of their classes, which Lara often rebuffed with if you do it when you first are assigned it and get it out of the way but don’t hand it in until you have to, then you’re set. Sometimes she didn’t follow her own philosophy and left it to last minute due to something more important.
Procrastinating.
So after more than a few boring homework related conversations with Ameraid’s, exchanges of funny jokes and amusing stories with the Saphricorn’s, witty repartee with her fellow Emerindyl’s, and a interesting, yet slightly disturbing conversation with some of the Ruberagon’s about some new interesting, and some more disturbing, defensive spells that also acted on the offensive. Lara had headed into the concealed system of passages that could lead one almost anywhere in the school, bar from the restricted areas such as the common rooms and teachers quarters, Lara couldn’t quite imagine anyone really wanting to see their teachers when they didn’t have to anyway, after many years of exploration and hints handed down by her father, much to her mother’s consternation, Lara was quite positive she knew these passageways better than almost anyone, not including the founders of course.
While she had been muttering under her breath the steps of her well known secret passage to the muggle studies classroom ’or is it the library?’ Lara couldn’t remember in a mental lapse for a second, either way she could do a quick dash to the classroom if need be. She had taken this path what seemed like millions of times over her career at Koalingo and it was always usually under the same circumstances of losing track of time, then muttering the directions as she weaved her way through the hidden passageway system. Looking straight ahead and adjusting the strap of her school bag from one shoulder to the other and raising her hand to rub her other shoulder she heard another voice, decidedly female from her right. Thinking it just an echo from outside the hidden passageway system, Lara continued onwards passing a alcove and nothing thinking anything of it different than the fifty others she had passed on her journey, but this time a flash of green caught her attention out the corner of her eye.
Back tracking from where she was about to take a right turn, she saw a girl, who on closer inspection she recognised to be a sixth year in her own house by the name of Rea Fines.
“You alright there, I’m pretty sure that’s the five tap archway. Leads out near the quidditch pitch exit, although I do stand to be corrected.”

Rea was a little startled by the arrival of the seventh year, though she did welcome it when she noticed at once it was a seventh year from her own house. She flushed a little and allowed a look of defeat on her face as she leant against the ‘five-tap archway’. Either way, she was still lost, she didn’t know anything about any such archway leading to any such Quidditch Pitch, though at this moment she thought if she could just get out of the secret passages, she really didn’t care.
“This is all wrong,” she said and a tear slipped into her eye. The frustration of the afternoon’s activities was bearing down on her from all sides and she knew that her class must have started by now; she’d be late anyway, so why turn up at all really?
“I don’t know where I am heading,” she said as she carelessly fingered the strands of her blonde fringe, which slipped across her healthy complexion. She smiled ruefully and tucked the strands behind her right ear while she waited for the passages to stop spinning before her eyes.
“I don’t know where I am, or where I am headed, and you know what, I don’t even remember where it was I was trying to get to anymore, I think I had a class, but I cant remember now,” she muttered knowing this must sound silly, though she didn’t think Lara would mind. Emerindyl’s were sometimes like that Rea had found.
“Where are you going? Maybe I should just come with you,”

“You know the professors have given up on teaching anything really important in the first twenty minutes of class because we Emerindyl’s never seem able to get there any earlier!” Lara said with a friendly smile to the other girl hoping it might somehow boost her spirits.
But on seeing the tears from Rea fall down unchecked across her face Lara knew a simple good natures jibe about the Emerindyl house’s tradition to arrive late to class was not helping she withdrew her wand and conjured a small box of tissues.
“Here take these, looks like you need them” Lara said, throwing her arm over the younger girl’s shoulders and giving her a friendly squeeze which offering her the box with her other hand, not really knowing what else to do. “I’m just on my way to a class myself, well kind of, I’ve been helping supervise and tutor the younger Emerindyl’s with their transformations. Three of the class seem to be having a bit more difficulty than the others so I help them out every week. You are quite welcome to come along and help. I’m sure they are bored with me so they might enjoy a fresh face. I have to meet them in half an hour, I was just going to check in with the free studies professor then onwards to the lake.”
Lara was thinking that perhaps talking to girl might help, considering she had burst out in tears over something as small as taking a wrong turn somewhere and forgetting a few things in the process was a little bit worrying but Lara felt for the younger girl and decided to help her however she could.
“I can’t answer all of those questions but I can tell you where you are, I’ll show you” Lara removed her arm from Rea’s shoulders, and deposited her bag on the ground and tapped the hallway’s end three times, the bricks turned transparent from their side letting them watching the late students, a lot of whom were sporting green house robes. “You see in the hidden passages there are the five, seven and nine tap archways, if you tap them two times less than needed to open them they allow you to see outwards, one tap less than the require opening taps allows you to see out and the other side to see in and of course the right amount of taps let you out”
Lara looked at the other girl with a grin and a shrug.
“My father filled me in all about them before I started first year, against my mother’s wishes of course but he told me how he used to get up to mischief with some of the Saphricorn boys playing pranks on the professors and the girls they liked, my mother assured me she didn’t appreciate being on the receiving end of them. I kind of memorised it all and could walk through here backwards and blind folded” Lara said, her eyes taking on a look of mischief and a little bit of sadness as she thought of how her parents had been at her age and sadness of not having the same thing with some great guy, not that he would be the one like her father was for her mother.
“Seeing as I still have half an hour before I really need to be anywhere, do you want to talk about what is obviously getting to you? I could summon some large squishy bean bags, and I have a stash of chocolate in my bag. Unless you want me to help you figure what class you are supposed to be in and how to get there?”
Lara turned her back to the still transparent stone wall, leaving it as it was just in case Rea might have been feeling claustrophobic. The recent death was still afresh in many minds, especially those sensitive to the issue, Lara was trying not to let it get to her, to go on but some people seemed to need help and if Lara could help then she would.
“Choice is totally yours, I’m always up for chocolate” She said with a smile as she turned fully to face Rea and give her attention to her.

"You know the rediculous thing is I dont even know what is wrong," she sniffled with a weak smile as she gratefully took the box of tissues and daped at her eyes. She didnt feel like having puffy eyes today and so she would not stupidly wipe them with force. Tissues paper seemed to be quite absorbant anyway and so she needn't more then dab as it was. She smiled again after cleaning her face off and looked at the seventh year in her house.
"Thanks Lara, I really appreciate it" she smiled a little brighter this time. She didnt really feel that she could exactly open up to this girl just yet. she had known her for a little while, and though she had some friends in the seventh year, she didnt know her well enough to be able to treat her like a very good friend. As it was though she was being very friendly, and treating her like an older sister might, which was more then enough reason to be greatful and welcome her company.
"I dont think I would be any help with the first years," she almost snorted. She didnt. Only almost. "They dont seem to like me very much" she commented, remembering a small altercation the previous day when she had told a whole group of Emerindyl first years off for playing with the door translocators in their cabins when they had repeatedly tuned them into her door and accidentally walked in unnannounced.
"Mind you it would be something different," she responded washing the thoughts from her mind. Why not go with Lara, it was something different as she had just said, and it might take her mind off of... things. She looked at the ground when the thoughts of what was upsetting her so much washed back through the bowels of her mind. She wasn't prepared to share with anyone, maybe if Elouise wasnt so caught up in her relationship issues at the moment, perhaps she could be the shoulder she always used to be. Not lately though.
"Squishy bean bags sound great, and I havent tasted chocolate in months" That much was true. Even though Easter had been only a few months ago Rea didnt spend the holidayswith her family, and they had been displeased enough with her decision to stay at school that they didnt even send her Easter eggs. Of course that was enough to upset anyone, and on Easter she had spent the entire day in her cabin on Emerindyl Lake in tears with her parents rejection. That was only the surface of her issues right now though.
