Regardless of the amount of alcohol consumed before and up to this moment, no one could have misunderstood the current silence as one of tension and curiosity. This next match up was definitely a landmark event. Two of the greatest families of the magical community coming head to her in a battle that would decide the strength of two young gentlemen students from Koalingo Academy.
Bartholomew had not had a drop to drink all night, and had noticed the interlude between the last duel and this one had been a thoroughly sober event. He found that no one was interested in having blurred vision or an altered state. For this battle would be one to remember. Bartholomew looked from one end of the duelling arena to the other. Everyone was waiting in a hushed silence reeking of anxiety. The real question was, who would be the victor?
“May I have everyone’s attention,” he called and the quiet room went deathly silent. He knew why this was and had sort of expected it, everyone knew who was battling next. All the same, it only made sense to introduce the battle just as he had for all others that had occurred on this night, “On one side, I would like you all to give a very respectful welcome to the young Lord Sinister, Lucius Sinister, seventh year Ruberagon Student from Koalingo Academy, not that he needs an introduction, the family sinister have been very loyal patrons to this establishment for a hundred years of more,”
There were no cheers or clapping following Lucius’ introduction, this was likely out of apparent respect or anxious awaiting for the beginning of the duel more then anything else. “And at the opposite end of the duelling arena, at the same age,”
“We have the son of Lord Emerindyl himself, offspring of Lady Saphricorn, young Master Godric Emerindyl to be expected, he is of the Emerindyl House, a seventh year no less,” he said noting that still no one spoke. He raised his wand pointing it at the ceiling, “I must ad that there will be added security to the protection around the duel, we are about to witness a duel of two very talents wizards, almost qualified and both quite capable,” he said looking around at the crowd, it appeared everyone already knew this. For the first time tonight, no one was sitting in the front rows of the stands, apparently they too feared the strength of the protection around the duelling arena.
“And so who will go first?” he said waiting for his entrants to step up.
((ALL COMPETITORS READ: Basically this is how the entire duel will play out, you will each say heads or tails at the end of each of your posts, if your choice is made your spell will hit your opponent, if not, it will miss them, or they will block it, when you play the block, the miss, or the hit, you will then play your return. So to get started, heads or tails? And we will decide who goes first))

Lucius had witnessed the last few duels with some interest. He couldn’t say that he was pleased or displeased with the results, the best entrants had won in each of the duels, which was a given as if they were not the best entrants, they would not have won. He listened to the introduction with meagre interest. He could not say that he was not nervous about the duel ahead of him. He would not be fool enough to underestimate his opponent and did indeed treat the duel quite seriously.
He removed his cloak as his name was called. Underneath he was wearing a duelling outfit, which consisted of pants he could move around in easily and a vest, which did not touch his arms so that he could move around quite nimbly. He walked out onto the duelling arena and checked his wand before slipping it into his pocket, as were the rules he and Godric decided on before the duel. They would not start with their wands in hand.
He stood at position in the arena and all went silent. His heart was thumping in his chest and he closed his eyes as he felt a breeze that did not exist. His hair whipped around behind his head and he opened his eyes.
Lucius was no longer standing in the middle of a duelling arena looking at Godric Emerindyl. There were no crowds, no noise, nothing. He was facing a part of his destiny, which had raced to meet him head on. He could only stare destiny in the face and wait for it to act.
The vision before him resembled nothing of Godric Emerindyl, and Lucius pushed the duel from his mind completely. He was not fighting the son of the countries most powerful wizard. He was facing himself. He was facing his past, his future; all things that were and were not, and would be. He stared it in the face with no contempt, but respect. This moment, though having very little to do with the broad scheme of things, had a lot to do with him personally.
“It begins,” he said under his breath as he looked at his opponent who was no different to himself. His breath was level though it came hard and felt slower then usual. His hand at the ready, his wand in excellent condition. What would be the result of this match up.
((Heads of course))

Godric listened as the announcement of his battle with Lucius was made. He called it a battle and not a duel because he knew that was what a lot of people would see it to be. The clash of good and evil so to speak, but the real question was, who was good, and who was evil? Many would argue that Godric might be on the side of good, though others sympathetic with Lucius would perhaps se Lucius to be on the side of good. It was all a matter of perception of course and Godric knew he and his opponent both had sympathisers in the audience. Godric’s head thumped as he listened to that music sounding in the background. It seemed a lot different to the music that had played when he had arrived, and during the matches of the other duels. It was that voice again, scratchy and lullaby like; singing and coaxing him towards it, but towards where? Towards this? Towards something else? Towards nothing perhaps, maybe it was all in his head. Godric tried to push the singing from his mind as he looked at his opponent. Lucius appeared to be very focused and this worried Godric just a little. His mind was racing and that scratching voice continued to sing in his mind. He would have to push it out, be done with it. But how? He stopped as his mind shuddered. His eyes flittered into the back of his head and a song came quietly from his lips; Who rides so late through the windy night? It's a father with a child; He holds his son in his arms, To keep the boy so close and warm. "My son, why hide your face in fear?" Father, don't you see the Erkling? The Erkling's Crown and flowing Robe? "My son, it's just a wisp of fog." "O, you dear child, come along with me! Such a lovely game we'll play! Fragrant flowers the shores abound, My mother's made you a Golden Gown ." Father, father, do you not hear What the Erkling has promised me ? "Be quiet, my child, be still; 'Tis but the dry leaves rustling." "Won't you come along with me, fine boy? My girls will tend your keeping. The Daughters dance such lullabies, 'Twill sing you off to sleeping." O father, father, why can't you see The Erkling's daughters dark and gay? "My son, my son, there's no one there But Willow trees twisted and grey." "I love you, boy; your charming face; But if you're not willing, then I'll use force." Father, father, he's grabbing me! The Erkling is hurting me! The father shudders and rides so fast, He holds his moaning child. To the courtyard swiftly his horse has sped, But in his arms . . . the child was dead.
Godric shuddered once more and his eyes were focused again. He looked forward and saw that no one had noticed this brief intermission. Perhaps to them it seemed as if he had closed his eyes and spoken a prayer for the outcome of this battle. To him, he was concerned, something strange had occurred, though now that it was past, the voice was gone. The head ache dissolved and he was quite focused on what was about to take place. “This moment… nothing more matters,” he said to himself as he looked at Lucius. He could see things clearly now, as if a great fog had been lifted from his eye sight. He would meet Lucius in a clash of arms. But would be be victorious? He did not know. But by will and strength he would try his very best, and the outcome would be the right one, whether he was to succeed or not. ((Tails then I guess))

Lucius whipped a line across his brow with the back of his thumb. A drop of sweat dribbled down the back of his thumb onto the back-side of his hand. Lucius looked at it with a little surprise. He had not expected that this would cause strain on him, but the more he thought about it, the more he realised that he felt so strongly about this match that he was a little anxious, not that he would ever admit it.
His darkening eyes moved from the back of his hand and away from thoughts of anxiety. He was focused. The figure before him, though commanding a lot of respect, was of no match to him. He would not underestimate it, but neither would he be underestimated by anyone or himself. He breathed slowly as he his eyes appraised his opponent. A formidable force called future.
He bowed his head when the time came. His fringe had come a little loose though it only obstructed his vision while his head was bowed low. He knew things like duels were the only time in his life he would ever have to bow to another person. This reinforced his strength as he moved into action.
All things from that point seemed to move in slow motion. He came out of the bow reaching for his wand at a speed that seemed far too slow but was in fact as fast as humanely possible. The end of his wand was poking out the top of his pocket and he had gripped it with the tips of his own fingers. A lesser skilled wizard might have allowed the tip to slip through his fingers, though Lucius did not.
The moment the wand was completely gripped in his hand, Lucius felt a power surge through him, an exhilarating force that reached from his toes ot his mind and quite suddenly he felt as if his very blood was on fire. The blood of purity and of royalty, no finer could be found and Lucius knew this.
Gripped in his hand and prepared to hurt Lucius brought his wand up and stabbed the air in front of him “Cresco Flatus!” Lucius chanted and at the end of his wand a ball of energy appeared and expanded so quickly that to an onlooking crowd it would appear only that there was a great flash of light followed by an explosion that consumed the entire arena.
The sound that ripped through Lucius ears was that of an explosion that would destroy anything in his path. He felt the curse draw from his soul and burn through his wand, everything went hot and an eye-stinging golden red filled the room before subsiding. Lucius watched to see what affect this might have had on Godric.

Godric had been too slow. Lucius’ wand was in his hand before Godric was even prepared to cast a curse, though this was still enough time for him to gather his thoughts. Godric saw the flash begin, and as if in slow motion; Godric had his wand in his hand, which he opened vertically flat. His wand was spinning on his hand and a shield appeared in the form of a giant disc at first and soon enough it had covered him like a bubble.
The force of Lucius’ curse was so that the bubble decreased in size almost instantly. Fortunately though there was no strain in it for the spell had launched its attack so quickly and past just as fast. As the light cleared Godric could see a strange mist that remained. Or was that just his eyes trying to re-adjust to the light being gone? Either way everything was clear again and Godric was standing there with no bubble, just a soft glow about him.
His shield had not been able to maintain the bubble, though it had coated him like a second skin and where he would have been in serious trouble had Lucius curse lasted longer, he was quite alright. He knew Lucius had thought to use a big curse right off the bat in an attempt to wound Godric for the rest of the duel. This would not be the case. Godric was quite unscathed.
“An interesting choice, Lucius,” Godric said while the air still cleared and his shield remained in place, “Not good enough however,” Godric raised his hand; his wand spun around between his fingers before he gripped it and pointed it at the ground beneath Lucius feet, “Try this one perhaps?”
He knew Lucius might attempt to employ legilimency against him, though Godric was prepared, and in an attempt to stop his opponent from using a shield Charm, or a counter curse Godric chose this time to try a non-verbal curse.
He pointed his wand at the ground below Lucius and watched as the patch of the arena Lucius stood on turned a darker grey. He did not take his eyes off the ground as smaller dots of black appeared here and there. Godric had only tried this curse once before, but it had been very effective at that moment.
Suddenly the ground cracked beneath Lucius feet as what looked like hundred of little ropes split through the ground and raced at Lucius to start wrapping around his limbs. If the spell was successful Lucius would be pulled into submission and it would be very difficult to get out of it without a great deal of talent. Godric watched, his eyes flickering with curiosity to see exactly how things went.

Lucius sneered when he saw his curse failed to make contact with Godric. Though in a way he was not surprised to see Godric standing their unscathed after his first attack. If anything else he might have been disappointed if Godric was not the worthy opponent he had always thought he might be. When Lucius’ site cleared and he saw Godric standing there, he would admit to himself and no one else that he was a little shocked and a little worried, all the same though he saw that Godric’s shield had depleted somewhat, which meant Lucius was almost his match power wise.
Lucius watched Godric awaiting his next move. He attempted legilimency though found, to no surprise, that Godric was quite an accomplished occlumence. He watched Godric’s wand movements knowing that Godric was putting too much into them and that if he had known what spell Godric was using, he would have been able to counter it several times over before the curse was cast.
When Godric aimed his curse at the ground below Lucius, he looked down away from Godric, he knew he was safe to do so for Godric had spent so much time casting the spell that this could be the only one he was casting for this turn. He watched the ground darken and realised he did not know what it was… yet. He watched it as smaller darker dots appeared everywhere and had the sudden compulsion to flee.
He looked up at Godric and smiled just before the ground began to crack, “Is that your best attempt?” he said before he jumped into the air, raising several feet as the stringy vines shot towards him like the rots of some wildly evil tree. He slashed his wand at them several times ’Incendio!’ he chanted and the vines lit on fire, shrivelled and after a moment they were nothing but ashes on the ground beneath him. He remained hovering above the grounds for a moment while he made sure the curse was well and truly destroyed.
He looked up at Godric and began laughing, this was not a very formidable reply, it took far to long, though it was a complex spell, it was easily rebutted, it might entertain the spectators but it was not the kind of thing Lucius found to be a challenge. Remaining in the air Lucius had the idea for his next curse.
“Aguamenti Maxime!” he chanted and his wand exploded with water. The water that issued from the end of it ran faster and thicker then an exploding dam. The force field of the duelling arena would keep it in, but the water would feel the entire space shortly. Godric would have to do something, or drown. Lucius quickly brought his wand up and cast a bubble head charm on himself while he watched for Godric to suffocate.

((I will not argue the score, but Godric can turn into a Grindylow, all Emerindyl students above the third year can, so it doesn’t really make sense the attack would hurt him… I will do my best though))
Godric smiled when he saw Lucius dodge the vines that attempted to entrap him. It was interesting to see how his opponent had learned to counter certain attacks and more then anything else, Godric respected him for his counter. He watched Lucius fighting off the vines wondering exactly how he did certain things. He was able to grab glimpses of certain spells and charms and realised there were a few things Lucius could do that Godric had not realised he could.
He watched Lucius; the fires reflected in Godric’s eyes as it singed the vines, burning them, and ultimately make Godric’s attempt at an attack a failed one. Godric still smiled though. This was interesting to watch, and why should he not find the entertainment in a duel just because he was one of the competitors. He continued to smile while Lucius released his onslaught of flames against the vines. And waited patiently for Lucius next attack.
“From fire to water? My aren’t we multi-talented,” he maintained his smile as he looked at his opponent.
Water… Godric was an animagus and could turn into a Grindylow. How could water affect him?
“I don’t know what you were trying to do,” Godric said as he stood watching the water fill up. He transformed and watched the arena fill to maximum holding and wondered exactly what Lucius was attempting. All the same though it was his turn to respond and he knew exactly the way it should be done.
He brought his wand out in his spindly Grindylow fingers and aimed it at Lucius. “Water conducts electricity,” he said as he looked at the bubble head charm Lucius was using. It stopped him from drowning, of course, but did it stop him from getting electrocuted?
Godric didn’t need to speak the curse. He aimed it well and a yellow light issued from his wand. Godric was not fool enough to get himself and so focused it as smaller electrocution attacks that were concentrated in the area around Lucius. It would hurt, even if it was not worthy of a score. But then this was Lucius fault after all, you never challenged an Emerindyl underwater.

((I forgot about that…))
As the water filled up, Lucius understood his mistake and would have cursed himself for the idiocy if he had the chance. H watched the water climb the boundaries of his shield and then waited eagerly for Godric to begin choking on the water. It was now that it hit him that there was a reason he could no longer see Godric. That was a memorable talent of the Emerindyl’s and yet somehow Lucius had still managed to forget it, it was a slip up that he never would have accepted from others.
Lucius looked around from his dome wondering where Godric was, knowing he must now be quite a deal smaller then he was, and that he would be similar to the deep green blue hue of the water. He tried to anticipate the move Godric would perform next. But was a little over confident in his own shield. Thus when a yellow light emanated from where it appears Godric was swimming in Grindylow form; Lucius was ill prepared and the attack hit him at full force.
His shield lit up from all sides. The supernova look the waves spread across the surface of his shield worried Lucius just a little. He waited and held onto his wand hoping the shield would hold. Though when he found he was standing in a pool of water, he knew that it had already begun to fail somewhere.
“There is nothing for it,” he said to himself as he pulled back the wand and crossed his arms as if he were preparing for eternal sleep. He closed his eyes and the shield collapsed.
The water that crashed in on him was cold. Far colder then he had expected, but the temperature of the water was only a problem for him for a very short space of time. The electric attack that ensued burned him all over and the only reason no one could hear him screaming was because there was no oxygen to scream.
’Aqua Sitis!’ he concentrated and waves his wand and instantly the water in the arena became vapour and he and Godric were cloaked in a fog so thick neither could see the other. Lucius listened for the slapping of Grindylow feet against the wet floor and when he thought he could here where Godric was he pointed his wand and chanted, “Tajada!”
A thin blue beam fired from the end of his wand, and Lucius waited to see if he had got his mark.
