Holly had arrived at the Three Broomsticks that night because she was determined not to be stuck at the castle in her dorm just because she wasn't a pureblood. So maybe she'd been muggleborn, but that didn't make her any less of a witch. Whatever, their attitude stunk and she wouldn't take it. So she was here to have some fun with the school mates who weren't going to the duelling competition.
Her good friend Alex Zander was duelling tonight, and though she would have loved to see him compete, there was no way she would ever get into the club. She would just have to wait until tomorrow to hear what had happened.
Finding a large table, she pushed some more chairs over to it and ordered a butterbeer for herself. Surely there would be other students that would come here tonight and it would be nice for them to hang out together.

“Hi there!” Belle greeted Holly when she pulled her chair out from the table and sat on it, not two seats from where holly was sitting. She would save the one between them for her friend Bailey, though she was not even sure if Bailey was coming, but she had left her a note in her cabin. “How’s it going? Anyone else here yet?” she was rather chipper about the whole event.
Belle had chosen to pretend that the duelling competition was not on at all; it was about all she could do to not get upset about not being able to go. She really wanted to be there but had heard that Lady Saphricorn was there to – record, as it were – the events to show them all later.
She looked about the table for a menu and realised there wasn’t one, so she jumped up and went to the bar without a word to Holly on the matter, she returned a moment later with two butter beers, sitting one in front of Holly she sat down again.
“Sorry? Did you already order one?” she asked looking at Holly, “Well that’s ok, now you have a spare,” she smiled. The two had met one another at Quidditch practice, and while she didn’t mind either way, she wondered if the conversation would turn to Quidditch.

Bailey walked in shortly after Belle. The two of them had not left together, as she had been elsewhere when Belle left the note in her cabin. She had wanted to go to the duelling of course, and very much could have, for she was a pureblood, but she would have rathered hang out with her best friend. She was sure the company would have been much better at the Three Broomsticks, and they'd all hear about the duel tomorrow anyway.
Bailey bounced in, as was her usual way, she was easily exciteable. Spotting a big table with her friend Belle at it, and an older Emerindyl, she made her way over, only stopping at the bar for a butterbeer.
"Mmmm" she said as she took a big gulp from it, just before sitting down. She placed the drink on the table and sat in the seat between Holly and Belle. If she knew Belle, which she did, she would have saved this chair for her.
She looked from Holly to Belle and back again, a big smile on her face. "So what's happening?"

Holly downed the rest of the drink she'd bought and put the empty glass back on the table before picking up the fresh one. It was warm, just the way she liked it and she held the glass up towards Belle.
"Cheers" she said. The gesture was lovely, and she thought she may have found a new admirer, or friend, in the younger Emerindyl girl. That was alright, for they seemed to have quite a lot in common. That said, she couldn't really think og anything interesting to talk about, except Quidditch. But when didn't Holly talk about Quidditch?
Thankfully, she was saved by the bell. Well, not Belle, but her fellow 4th year friend. How interesting that the girl sat between them. All her 6th year friends were going to be a t the duel of course, and so she had not really expected to have a lot of fun that night, but it seemed to be turning out quite differently. Good company, she thought, good company was all that mattered.

Speaking of good company, Lachlan thought as he caught a glimpse of what Holly was thinking; he had arrived. He quite liked the blonde Emerindyl and was pleased to see that she wasn't attending the duel, but here instead.
She confused him though, just when he thought they might be becoming friends, she began to act strange again and he felt like a fool. Still, there was no time like the present to try, try again.
He was here with Rubin, a fellow Ameraid 6th year. The two were quite good friends, and he was sure the other boy wouldn't mind sitting with this little gaggle of Emerindyl girls. They were all fairly attractive, even if two of them were a bit younger.
"Shall we?" he asked his friend, gesturing to the table in the corner where they sat. He could see they all had drinks, but there was nothing wrong with a little generosity, especially when it would make him look good in the eyes of a certain white haired, green housed sixth year.
He walked over to the bar and ordered five butterbeers, asking for a tray to carry them. After paying, he picked up the tray and made his way over to the table, choosing the empty seat that was next to Holly to park himself. He smiled and put the tray down.
"Ladies," he said by way of greeting and handed out the drinks, putting one at his own seat and one next to him, where he hoped Rubin would sit.

Mariana had heard something like this was happening at the Three Broomsticks. She had thought that there was supposed to be some sort of tournament, though was pleased to see they were only joking whispers, Mariana didn’t think a chess tournament sounded like a lot of fun, even wizard chess.
She walked in just as she saw an Ameraid purchase a large sum of drinks. She assumed this must be for the group already at the table so she stopped and waited for him to be done before ordering a pumpkin juice for herself. It was rather chilly outside but she was never one for warm drinks.
She waited at the bar while the barmaid went to pour the pumpkin juice. She smiled at a couple of random’s walking through the bar. Only for the fact that it was polite and she knew they would understand she was from the school. When at last her drink arrived, she smiled and gave the barmaid her money before making her way through the crowd and to the table.
“Are these seats being saved for anyone?” she asked as she stopped, wanting to join in, but not wanting to be overbearing. How unlike a Saphricorn she was being tonight. She grabbed the back of a seat two places from Belle, not saving the other seat, but not wanting to make anyone think she had an unhealthy attachment to being around people she didn’t know. She smiled, this might actually turn out to be a decent night.

Shane came in behind Mariana grabbing his own drink from the bar as he past it. He was interested to see what passed for entertainment when they were all missing something like a duelling competition. Shane was actually quite annoyed not to be able to go. He would let it slide that he couldn’t go, but all the same he could not help but think it might be a great deal more interesting then a night at the Three Broomsticks. Not that they wouldn’t have fun, as he was sure they would, but he also thought he would have a lot more fun watching duelling matches, maybe they would have to flip[ the tables over and have one themselves just to show the pure bloods they could not exclude them.
He laughed that thought off, he was not about to start hexing people just because he missed a duelling competition, he knew if he wanted to he could always wrangle someone into having a duel with him later on… maybe after a couple more drinks.
He made his way to the table and greeted everyone brightly before sitting next to Mariana closer to one of the others sitting at the table.
“How many of us are coming?” he asked looking at the table, there were a couple more spaces, and while he knew the table could always be made larger, it didn’t look like anyone else was going to be filling them, “So about that duelling competition hey? I heard Godric and Lucius….” He started, faltering as he tested the water. Would they want to talk about the duelling match? Were they interested that someone might beat someone else in a match they were not going to get to see?
“Professor Saphricorn is watching it for us,” he smiled and fell quiet waiting for someone to either start talking about the duelling competition or start talking about something else with the subtle hint that they were not interested and maybe he might want to think of something else that would bring conversation to a table of the most mixed bunch you could imagine. “So… um… yeah….” He smiled waiting for some response.

“You know, I think this is almost it,” Belle said as she looked around, “Most everyone I know was heading to the duelling match, they were all going on about how exciting it was, and putting bets on who would win and such, I don’t think anyone who could have gone didn’t,” she said as she appraised the group around her, her eyes stopping on Bailey, “Well almost everyone,”
She took the drink Lachlan had given her and smiled. She liked free things, especially when she was saving up all the money she could to buy her new broom for the new Quidditch season.
Belle heard Shane talking about Godric and Lucius competing in the duel; normally she would have ignored the discussions as she had in Emerindyl Lake; but Godric was the Emerindyl prefect, so she was interested in the topic; “I don’t know what will happen, I have never seen either of them fight, but I think it would be pretty impressive,”
The thought of a wizard’s duel excited her a lot. She had grown up on movies of magic and mayhem. Though at the time she didn’t think any of it was true, so now she knew it could be; she was definitely interested in finding out how he would happen and what it would look like.

Mariana was sitting there enjoying the company around her when something dawned on her that made her feel a quick shot of horror to her thoughts, “Oh no, I forgot to feed the horses, they are going to be furious, and so will Professor Saphricorn If I don’t get back their and do it,” she said as she suddenly jumped up from where she sat at the table.
It had been her responsibility this week to feed the horses on the Saphricorn planes and this evening she had been so caught up in the excitement of everything, and spending the night out of the castle with some friends, that she didn’t stop to think that the horses might not have any food if she forgot to feed them.
“I am so sorry everyone, but I have to run,” she told them moving her chair back and scrambling out behind them. She knew that Professor Saphricorn was going to be at the duelling and so it was no big deal, she at least would not catch her, and she knew she could trust that if there was another Saphricorn on the planes who might have noticed then they too would have fixed it up for her, all the same though she did not want her own house mates thinking her inconsiderate to animals; especially horses.
“You guys stay here, I will be right back,” she said to her fellow Saphricorn’s as she scrambled out over the top of their little gathering and started towards the door, She stopped halfway from it and wandered back to the table to grab her pumpkin juice and skulled it with one hand on the table and her neck arched as if she was drinking from the sky.
She accidentally burped when she completed it and looked a little embarrassed about it before an even larger one came from someone else in the tavern, which in turn made her begin to laugh.
She smiled at them all and turned on her heel shouting a farewell to them all and then to the tavern maid before she let the door shut behind her with a tinkling of its entrance bell. She ran out into the night, and back towards the Manor as quickly as she could.

Lachlan smiled, glad that all those who he'd bought drinks for had appreciated them. Of course he'd only really wanted to buy a drink for one perticular person, but he knew he couldn't have done that... is intentions would have been far too obvious.
He was glad Rubin was here, it was good to have friends around for support, not that he'd ever admit it, but even if he had been able to go to the duelling, he would have come here anyway. He knew who was going to be here and now he was within arms length.
Lachlan felt a flush creep up his cheeks but was sure they had not turned red. The thought of being so close had given him.. interesting thoughts.. and he quickly gulped his drink to cover it up.
Unfortunately, he did not look as cool as he'd hoped he would, for he had taken too much Butterbeer in his mouth and was having trouble swallowing it all. Struggling to breath, he spluttered and knocked his glass over as he put it back on the large table.

Holly jumped up as the glass was knocked over, making a squealing noise as it spilt all over her. She was wearing baggy jeans and a long sleeved top, so where she normally would have whipped off her robes and comfortably have her muggle clothes underneath, she had no such luck that night. The Butterbeer sank right into the denim fabric of her pants.
Slapping her legs, she tried to get some of the moisture out before grabbing a handful of serviettes from the middle of the table. She was highly irritated at the Ameraid sitting next to her. He seemd to do a lot fo clumsy things around her, very unlike an Ameraid.
Holly didn't want to go all the way back to the castle to get changed so she picked up her wand, leaving the full glass of Butterbeer Lachlan had bought for her on the table and departed for the bathroom, planning to dry her jeans by magic.

Shane watched Mariana leave and was going to offer to go with her though she had said she was planning on coming straight back so he thought he would keep her seat secured for when she returns. He sat there taking in the view there were some good-looking women in the bar that night, though definitely none his age. That wasn’t to say those at his table were not good looking, but more that he could look at them whenever he pleased.
He took a gulp from his drink and suppressed a laugh when the Ameraid knocked his drink of the Emerindyl, it was quite funny and normally he would have laughed until his sides hurt, but these people were not in Saphricorn and he was not sure he could trust their judgement not to get annoyed with him for laughing.
“You know, I do believe you made an impression on her,” he said in a low voice leaning forward to talk to the Ameraid when the Emerindyl practically stormed off to clean herself. It might not have been the most appropriate joke he had ever made, all the same though; he knew the best way to move past something was to laugh about it.

Lachlan often found the best way to deal with Saphricorns and their warped sense of humour was to ignore them. And so he did.
Smiling pleasantly at the rest of the people at the table, he stood up and walked to the bar, ordering himself another drink. He was incredibly embarrassed about the incident with him and Holly, but hoped that he could get her alone later than night and apologise for his behaviour. Perhaps he would even have a chance to explain why he acted to oddly around her.
He came back to the table, drink in hand and wondered what they were going to do. Long gone were his days of impressing people and being probably the oldest student at the table, he was happy to go along with pretty much whatever they planned to do, so long as it wasn’t suggested by a Saphricorn.

Rubin didn’t move from where he was sitting at the table. He knew that after that Lachlan would appreciate being alone and so that is what he allowed to happen. Rubin didn’t think the Saphricorn handled it quite the way manners might have dictated. Ojn the same scale though he did handle it in exactly the way a Saphricorn would have handled it and so Rubin knew that if they were going to be spending time with Saphricorn’s then they had to accept that that was just the way things were.
He looked at Belle whom was the last person to say anything of some real value, and thought he would use it to draw everyone into conversation that had nothing to do with Lachlan spilling something on Holly.
“I have seen Lucius fight before, he used to do a lot of it when we were younger, you might not realise this, but he has actually toned down a lot since he was a junior,” Rubin said as he remembered the days where someone could round a corner and see a Saphricorn first year hanging by the underwear on the braziers in the corridors. “Lucius used to like to demonstrate his ability over others all the time, though I guess he kind of grew out of it in the end, might be interesting to see what Godric is like though,” he refrained from insulting Godric as there was an Emerindyl present. Personally though he shared the views of his friends that perhaps Godric was a little… created.
