Lucy Cusack was not wearing robes. To get to Koaltumut, she had travelled through Thredbo, the muggle skiing town, and so she was rugged up in a jacket and scarf with heavy boots and jeans. She had been hoping to do a bit of skiing before the appointment she was due at, but hadn't left herself enough time. Instead, she had made do with a ride on the chairlift and apparated from the top of the mountain to the Three Broomsticks.
She stomped her feet a bit to get the feeling back into them and get rid of any snow that lingered. The snow was man-made there as it was still practically summer.
Lucy stepped over the threshold and took off her jacket, beanie and scarf. She was wearing a long-sleeved t-shirt underneath and regretted it as she realised how hot it was inside. While there was no fire going, the place was quite crowded and she assumed the heat was from all the bodies inside. The place was crowded with witches and wizards she assumed to be in here to escape the cold.
The appointment she was here for... Well, it wasn't actually an appointment. It was more a case of being in the right place at the right time. There was someone here she was going to meet. Of course, she knew about it beforehand though whether that was a skill or careful research remained to be seen...

It was a rare occurrence to see Headmaster Emerindyl looking disgruntled. So rare in fact that even now, as displeased as he was, he was working very hard not to let it show too much. He had been considering a new appointment for his Divination class though unfortunately the Professor he was supposed to be interviewing had not arrived and their meeting together was to begin some two hours prior.
He had been ok within the first hour, he had imagined the interview would take that long anyway, but when the second hour ticked away he began to sum up the things he could have been doing. To be quite honest, all of the appointments for Divination teacher since the time Dawn Ngera had resigned had been somewhat disappointing. Elwyn had to admit to himself, though he would never say it to anyone else; he was considering cancelling the subject altogether.
And so when he looked at his pocket watch and realise two and a half hours had elapsed he decided he had no desire to now hire this Professor even if he did show up. Elwyn would have thought, and he chuckled at the thought, that as Divination Professor, the applicant would have foreseen that he was going to be late and so plan for it and not show up later, or at the very least warn him.
“I think just one more gum tree tea thank you Penelope,” he said as the barmaid came to his table with a grimace on her face. She knew what he was doing there because he had told her earlier. “One more I think then I better be getting back in time for afternoon classes, yes, I think so,”

Scanning the room, Lucy grinned as her gaze settled upon Elwyn Emerindyl. He looked much the same as he had when she had attended Koalingo, some 10 years ago.
There was a large mirror behind the bar and she adjusted her collar and hair via her relfection before turning back to Emerindyl. She was nervous, definately, but there was a certain smugness to her smile as she thought about the poor candidate she'd cast that light memory spell on earlier that day. She had used this precaution because she knew Elwyn would not likely hire someone as inexperienced as she. Afterall, she'd never had teaching experience.
Taking a deep breath, she walked over to his table and placed her hands on the back of the chair opposite to the man. He was, as always, pleasantly intimidating. This was definately a man to be respected. And though she had no doubt he would see straight through her little ruse, no doubt it would amuse him and perhaps give her some brownie points.
"My Lord," she spoke as way of announcing her presence, with a cheeky smile on her bright face, "What a pleasant surprise!"

Elwyn’s eyes twinkled with humour when the past student of Ameraid appeared before him, how could he have not known. Of course this lead to light immediately an answer as to why the other applicant had not arrived, “Lucy Cusack,” he said smiling. While he understood almost instantly what she had done to be here at this interview he knew also that such initiative was not to be dismissed and so he gestured to the chair opposite to him and pretended not to understand.
“Top in your year for Divination of course,” he smiled at her as the barmaid returned this time with two drinks, placing on in front of Lucy and the gum tree tea in front of Elwyn. “It has been a little while,” he mentioned as he tested his tea, it tasted perfect as always. He gestured for Lucy to try her own drink, a concoction of which he was unsure of, but sure that Penelope would know exactly what any returning patron of her bar might like.
“And so we both happen to find ourselves here in the three broomsticks, precisely an hour after I expected I would no longer be here, and yet, here we are,” he smiled quite cheerfully looking at the young woman before him. It was always a pleasant surprise to see students from days before most others could remember, “And so we must ask ourselves why for the occurrence? What brings you to Koaltumut?”
He knew. To think he didn’t would be an insult to his name. All the same they were both there, and am discussion was imminent, he only wondered how upfront with him she would be.

Lucy grinned and sat down. Of course Elwyn knew what she'd done, how could he not? But all the same, he was going to play her little game and that gave her great pleasure. Before starting, she cupped her drink in her hands and sipped it. It was a perfect blend of white and dark drinking chocolate with a hint of sweetened milk. It was exactly what she'd felt like and she licked her lips as the put the mug back down.
"I must admit Elwyn, it's not entirely coindicence that we both happen to be here at the same time. But like you said, I recieved top marks in Divination. So I won't pretend I didn't forsee this, and I happened to bring my CV." She picked up her bag and pulled out a roll of parchment and placed it in the middle of the table.
The CV itself was not particularly extensive, but the roles she had were solid and reputable. She had worked in both the American and Australian Ministries for Magic and had done a brief stint with the Australian muggle police force as a "medium". Though the last one had been mainly for fun and a bit of gratification, she'd had to leave it before the muggles got too suspicious. So now, she was jobseeking, and what better place to look than her Alma Mater?
"I'm sure you probably have doubts about hiring someone that has no teaching experience, but it's not that long ago that I finished at Koalingo myself, and I believe I would be a wonderful addition to your teaching staff."
Though some would see Lucy's attitude as perhaps pompous or arrogant, it was more a case of being extremely confident in her abilities. She took another sip of her drink and watched Elwyn carefully.

Elwyn smile, he had had every intention of giving her the job the moment she had sat down in front of him. He had thought about it severely in his immeasurable wisdom and had decided if the other applicant had not foreseen that Lucy was going to modify his memory and steal his job then he really wasn’t worthy of the position anyway, now was he? Nevertheless Elwyn wanted to play the game and drew the Resume towards him as she handed it to him.
He rolled it over and his eyes scanned it with a speed that meant he had read the entire document before it had managed to become completely unrolled. Being a highly accomplished legilimens he agreed with her beliefs that the posts, while short lived, were all very reputable. He wondered though what would interest her in working at Koalingo when, by comparison, it didn’t appear nearly as interesting.
“Ah, now there, I have to inform you, you are indeed incorrect in believing I have reservations of your ability to teach,” he said as he rolled the CV up again and pocketed it not considering she might want it back, deciding she didn’t need it. “You see child, when I first became a teacher it was something of a surprise to all around me, I had never taught so much as a rat to run on a spinning wheel,”
“I believe that having been at Koalingo as recent as a decade ago might actually assist you in your knowledge of how things are done at Koalingo, so many stuffed shirted professors arrive with memories of far different wizarding colleges and they seek to turn Koalingo into these places, it does not happen so,” he smiled as he remembered in particular a professor who once taught Charms.
“Koalingo is a place of its own making, and is not to be changed by outside decisions,” he smiled as he said this. He had been at Koalingo for hundreds of years, and while a lot stayed the same, little things changed often and the school was different. But not so much so.
“I like your initiative, and you seem motivated, and your resume, despite being brief does you justice,” he said looking at her, his emerald eyes twinkling in the sunlight of the tavern windows, “Why then, with all of this experience, do you seek to leave the Ministry and instruct the next generation on how to look forward to the following?”

"To be honest Elwyn," she smiled and leaned back in her chair, picking her drink up again, "I wanted to teach at Koalingo after I finished there. But in all fairness I didn't believe I had the maturity, experience or wisdom to do so. That, and it would have been a little weird me teaching people almost my own age. By now, I figure anyone that was there while I was a student has well and truly moved on."
She took another sip of her drink and let the liquid warmth slide down her throat where it settled in her stomach and warmed the rest of her. It was a peculiar drink and she made a mental note to find out how Penelope made it, or at least if she delivered.
She waited a few moments to let her words float around and decided carefully where to go next. While Elwyn Emerindyl was certainly no stranger, he was still her superiour and she would have to get used to not thinking of him as her Headmaster. They could be familiar, but she'd have to watch her tongue. Lucy had an annoying case of foot-in-mouth that chose to rear it's ugly head at the worst possible moments. With that in mind, she chose her next words carefully.
"So we both agree I'm the best woman for the position? When do I start?"

“So you believe you have the maturity, experience… and did you say – wisdom - required for the position now?” he said looking at her with curiosity in his eyes, he wasn’t quite finished with her just yet. She had the job, of course, but presumption of wisdom was an intriguing mistake worth a couple more seconds attention. He smiled after saying this, it was not a cruel smile, nor did it bare any malice, but it was politely curious, as always.
He took a drink from his own tea, Lucy appeared, to Elwyn, to have a great deal of interest in her drink and her was curious as to what it was that he might sample some. But for the moment he would keep his mind on the task at hand.

"I would say it depends on your definition of wisdom. Being wise to me means accepting your mistakes and having learnt from them. A wise choice is one that was made with all possible outcomes in mind. I have made a great deal of mistakes in my youth, and have learnt from them. They make me the person I am today. Being older, having travelled and experienced new things, I am wiser and more mature than I was when I finished at Koalingo. It was ridiculous to think that a teenager could teach other teenagers."
She took another sipof her drink. So Elwyn wasn't going to give it to her as easily as she thought. She had assumed she had the job when he had pocketed her resume, but perhaps she had been wrong?
Perhaps it had been a mistake so use the word wise in referring to herself, after all, she knew Elwyn himself was considered one of the wisest Wizards in the world, but there was that speaking before thinking again. In any case, she would have to play this through very carefully.

“Very well, welcome to the team, you start immediately,” he said to her rather quickly as he stood and bowed to her regally. “You will have a house elf attend you on arrival, I shell see you at the next staff meeting I don’t doubt,” he smiled and with a wave of his cloak he was gone.
