Charlotte Mandlestein was a woman of simple pleasures. These included the right to be able to sample and share the wonders of her teagarden in the staff common room. And so this morning she had brewed a kettle of her latest creation. She sucked in the aroma of the tea while she waited for it too cool for some time. She had some lemon waiting handy just in case it required it, but on the whole she thought this attempt was far better then her last and perhaps she would not require it.
She had been hoping to meet with the school librarian in the common room as she had been listening in on a couple of her students conversations and heard the most extraordinary stories about how she had been chasing them out of the library while they were trying to study. None of her students had actually come to her in confidence, which was why it worried her even more. Not only was the woman chasing them out of the library, but also scaring them into not telling anyone about it.
Charlotte was not a taddle tail, and so she had not though to tell the Headmaster of this news. She was more interested in finding out whether any of the other teachers had heard similar stories and if so, what they planned to do about it. She had to have a chuckle over that one, knowing this was probably the way her students had approached it; not telling anyone, just telling their friends to see what they thought about it and if they were going to do anything about it; she understood this to be a bit of a vicious cycle.
She moved from the table to the coffee table between the lounge. She wondered why it was called a coffee table for she had never set coffee upon it, and she knew a great deal of the staff to prefer her teas over common coffee anyway, and thought that from this moment, perhaps she would refer to it as a tea table.
She set the kettle down with the cups along side it and prepared herself a teacup. She laid out a tray of short bread and sat back to breath the aroma in while cupping her hands around the teacup for warmth. It was a good thing she had small hands too as the cup was quite small itself.
She tasted it and was pleased with the result. This was by far the nicest brew she had concocter yet. Now if only there were someone else in the staff room to enjoy it with her.
