Godric was moving through the streets of Koaltumut on the lookout for someone. He had been searching for them for the bulk of the morning and while he saw snippets of blonde hair disappearing into stores; upon inspection he discovered it was not who he was looking for. He carried on with his search as he approached a run down store he had never been into before.
He looked into the window and saw that it contained many things and looked something like a junkyard with a window display. His father had always told him to never dismiss something that looks like rubbish as it was almost always going to be something more then that, or it would not be in a place where rubbish is unlikely to be.
As Godric looked though he thought it was harder and harder for anyone to say that the things in this store were not supposed to be rubbish, but still for some reason he could not help but walk into the store to check it out.
The old wizard behind the counter seemed rundown and diminished in his old age. He didn’t look a Godric, he didn’t say a thing, he seemed to be shining a coin he had been inspecting when Godric initially saw him through the window.
Godric looked around and moved along the dusty wooden floor to see all of the things on display. None of it had price tags, but it was all laid out as if it could be purchased.

“Oh, hi Godric!” Holly MacFarlane appeared out of what seemed like nowhere. She had a parcel in her hand, wrapped up in so many layers of paper it was impossible to distinguish what the item beneath could be. Holly and Godric were quite good friends, they floated in the same circles, but Holly hadn’t seen Godric for a while. Perhaps he had just been busy, or was she so distracted by recent developments that she’d forgotten about her friends? This worried her momentarily, before her attention slid back onto her fellow Emerindyl.
“This isn’t the kind of shop I’d expect to see you in” She said, curious as to why Godric would be in here. She was in here quite a lot, as it was her favourite store in Koaltumut, but she had only seen one other student in here about a year ago, and he wasn’t an Emerindyl.
“Still, it’s a great store. The stock fluctuates so often that I’m in here weekly scouring for the good stuff” here she lowered her voice “Though it’s a bit hard to find anything worth value in here. The odd gem will pop up occasionally; I guess you have to know what to look for hey?” Holly patted her large parcel carefully. She was a hoarder that was for sure. But her hut on the Emerindyl plain was full of some of the most interesting things. Godrics girlfriend Elouise would have known that, they had shared a cabin when they were in first year, and her roommates had found this stashing junk habit very annoying. Holly had been very glad to have her own cabin.
“So were you looking for anything in particular?” Holly smiled at Godric, wondering if she could help him. She’d been in the store for most of the morning and sort of remembered what was lurking.

Godric started when Holly popped up. He was never one to try to make people think he had a weak heart. Quite to the contrary Godric was a sportsmen and somewhat in his prime, or so he liked to think. All the same though, Holly popping up like that was a little frightening for just a moment. He evened off his footing and settled his breathing as he looked at her, all the while trying not to appear as shocked as he had been.
“What is this place?” he said to her under his breath. He didn’t want to insult the old wizard behind the counter, though all the same; said clerk did not appear to be interested in him anyway. He lowered his eyes to the parcel in Holly’s hand to see if he could figure out what it was without asking her outright. As he looked at it he could smell something metallic. He could have looked into it further but his head ache was starting again and so he chose not to.
“I’m not – really – looking – for – something, – ” he said as he looked past her distractedly. His headaches were becoming more and more a common event and he could not help but become slightly vague when they occurred.
“Gem’s you say?” he said to her with a sudden interest. This interest was not for the common reason of a gem’s obvious value monetarily, but more because he knew that gems rarely had a lot more to do with them then looking pretty; particularly in Australia.
“Do you have any of these gems?” he said to her as his eyes flicked around the room in a single sweep taking in every object subtly. There weren’t any on display at the moment, which he found a little disappointing.

“Oh yeah, there’s a whole section of stones. I think a lot of them are just interesting rocks, but there are a few precious ones in there. They’re not cut or anything, just still kind of in rock form.” Holly smiled and switched her package from under her left arm to under her right one and turned around, walking towards another section of the shop.
It was quite a large store and by the time they got to the stones section they could no longer see or hear the shop keeper. There was a large table with a pile of big stones on it, and some shelves behind that had equipment on them, including Muggle stone cutters. Holly was used to this stuff. She had grown up in the desert in the Australian outback and there’d been a small Muggle mining town not too far from their property.
Holly put her package down on the ground and began lifting stones, shifting them aside to find the precious ones. Many of them were just plain rocks, she wasn’t quite sure why they were here, but if you knew what to look for… Holly picked up a large dark stone with a streak of green running through the side of it. She passed it to Godric.
“Here you go, this one’s suitable don’t you think?” She smiled at her friend before going back to the pile “I doubt you’d be lucky enough to find a Ruby and a Sapphire in here too, but there’s probably a few Amethysts in here, they’re common as.”
She ran a hand over the stone Godric had and looked at him “You know if we cut that I’m sure there’d be a fairly decent sized Emerald in there.”
