Elouise felt a slight prodding sensation in his shoulder as she moved for her wand. She stopped and moved her shoulders around a bit before swinging her arm back and forth a bit just to make sure she had not put it out or something, it felt sort of like she had jerked it a bit, though it did not seem to be a problem that lasted. She smiled and lifted her wand.
“Of course, Professor” she smiled and brought her wand back moving it with the talent of a perfectionist as she chanted “Protego!” the spell hit the canaries and suddenly they were all enveloped in a shield that surrounded them like a balloon. She watched and was careful to keep her hand steady. The last thing she wanted to do now was pay no attention and suffocate the birds within the shield she had generated.
Her arm still felt a little strange though she did not let it bother her while she waited for further instructions.

Barnak watched very carefully the motion that Elouise made with her wand. He memorised the word she had used, tried to link it to the rune on the board, and watched its effect on the birds.
He raised a tentative hand and waited until he had caught the Professor's eye.
"Sir... it is possible to use a shield to actually crush something... say if the shield were to collapse inward?"

Belle watched with a fascination that might have made her look slightly odd. She liked birds a lot and was a little concerned at where this was heading. If the shield charm was supposed to be a great deal weaker then a Rune shield, then was the Professor going to use this to prove his point?
She hoped not.
She didnt say anything though as she sat there and waited for what would happen, to actually occur.

"No its not," Allora answered knowing that though the question was not directed at her she might as well show that someone was paying attention in second year when they were teaching shield charms in their first lesson on duelling. She knew that this boy was actually a first year and it was not surprising that he did not know, but it surprised her that others, she glanced at Belle, had had the chance to answer for the Professor and did not. Allora didnt feel it would be rude to do so, in fact she thought it would help the class move along.
"A shield charm can close in on something when someone stronger then it by mere amounts would push it to its limit or drain energy from it, but to crush something within it, is not possible," she said wondering if the professor might add anything to this statement as she was sure he would. She looked at Barnak with an appraising glance wondering why he would even ask such a thing. "Before a shield charm can grow smaller then what it protects it will dissipate as it is obviously unable to perform its original purpose,"

Clancy sprinted down the corridor and burst into the Ancient Rooms Classroom. It was his first day as a student at Koalingo and he was already late for a lesson. Brilliant he thought to himself savagely as he searched for the right classroom.
Clancy had loved Runes even before he found out he was a wizard and when he found out that he was a wizard it was this he was looking forward to the most. He silently prayed that he would be able to find the right classroom before the lesson was over. He had already learned how to read runes before he came to koalingo and hoped that this might just help him.
He found the right room and burst in straitening up he looked around. Prof Emerindyll was standing at the front of the classroom with a flock of birds surrounded in a bubble. The other students looked at him. He saw a fellow first year student who had been sorted into Ruberagon he smiled but the boy just scowled at him.c
Clancy muttered his apologies to Prof. Emerindyll and scampered towards an empty seat next to one of the girls he recognised from the Emerindyl Common Room.

Tye listened to the discussion quietly. He didn’t pretend to know a whole lot about a lot more then he should know. He was in the class because he didn’t know a lot about it, and so he thought the best stance he should take on this subject was silence. He smirked when he saw the Emerindyl running into the classroom. Late. That much was predictable.
He smiled and sat back in his chair listening to the Ameraid finish demonstrating how Ameraid students knew more than everyone else. She didn’t have to show off, but then if she didn’t answers who else would?
He looked to the Professor after the Ameraid spoke, waiting for a response to the girls explanation.

“I think you might be wrong Allora,’’ Elouiose started out a little nervously. It was not often that someone in a class could contradict an Ameraid, and Elouise knew that the fact that it was she might cause some muttering of displeasure. She approached this one very carefully, but as she thought about it more than most of the people in the room kmew that a shield could shrink, they had all seen it happen at the duelling competition.
“If a shield charm is pressed in front all sides it shrinks onto the person who cast it,’ she announced, remembering what she had seen, she guessed there was a possibility she was not entirely right, but then she would never know if she didn’t try.
“I saw it happen once, the shield charm held back an attack, the aattack was a slow one that built up its energy, instead of dissipating, the shield shrank,” she said as she watched the Professor for some sort of confirmation, “Doesn’t that mean that if it can shrink, ultimately it might be able to crush its caster?”
