The smell of sausages wafted through the air as Mariana walked out of the pantry-house with a platter full of chopped onions and mushrooms. The Saphricorn’s had decided to have a barbecue, as it was such a pleasant evening. She wondered what other’s might be eating at the Golden Hall right now, but knew, no matter what they were eating; the Saphricorn table would be completely empty.
She walked across the road between the pantry house and the pavilion. Lifting the platter as a couple of piglets ran around her feet chasing one another and nearly tripping her over.
“Don’t you make me turn you into bacon,” she shouted at them trying to steady herself before continuing on to the pavilion. It looked as if everyone had shown up tonight, all two hundred and fifty Saphricorn students, wearing their casual common clothes and sitting about enjoying the smell that was coming from the barbeque.
Mariana was lucky enough to get the job of assisting with the food preparation, so while she moved towards the barbeque she could see many others hovering around it helping out as well while the rest of the group waited idly. It was not in the personality of a Saphricorn to wait idly by, and it was always very funny to see how many of them jumped when you offered them something to do.
She had suggested to them fifteen minutes prior to set the tables with plastic cutlery, plates and cups, then share out the jugs of orange, mango, and pumpkin juice. It was like watching seagulls attack a fan of chips. The all pounced off their seats, grabbed their tools and had each table laid out so quickly that barely any of them would have felt accomplished by the end of it.
Mariana reached the barbeque and smiled at the person cooking the meat; “How’s it going there?” she asked them with a smile. She then had the sudden realisation that just about everyone in the pavilion was hanging on the answer. Apparently they were hungry.

Post by Lady Sylvia Saphricorn on Mar 29, 2007 1:56:10 GMT 10
After having been approached by a few of the students with the idea of having what was proposed to her as a ‘house gathering’ Lady Saphricorn has immediately jumped at the chance to mingle and talk to her students outside of the classroom and uniformity of the main castle. Of course, she had unwittingly thought it would be fun to take care of the cooking for her students, and had even got in the spirit with a novelty apron and a big white chefs hat as she had happily hummed away turning over the many different types of meat she had in front of her ranging from steak, sausages, to burger pattys and the vegetarian range of food.
“I’m sure as soon as I get those from you Marianna and put them on the grill and give it a few minutes to cook on here we will be right as rain.” Lady Saphricorn said, with a grin loving the lack of formalities she could have with her students, calling them by their first names and talking about the little things that mattered to them. “I must say thank you for being a wonderful assistant, my dear”
Making room on the grill and putting the onions and mushroom on and listening to the sizzle and popping noise that started instantly. Turning her back to the grill for a second she looked over all her students, one of them have been clever enough to rig up the wizarding wireless network to some magically enhanced speaker, on her behalf which was flowing out a background noise to the chattering teens that surrounded the area. Sylvia Saphricorn has always said there was something soothing about watching younger people who could harmonise together, and that indeed was her house of students at that moment. Even though she caught more than a few hungry glances at the grill. The whole scene made her laugh her tinkling laugh.
“Okay, listen up everybody. The food is ready but first I would like a round of applause for my assistant, Mariana Torrenne.” Lady Saphricorn paused while everyone clapped enthusiastically, somebody even whistled from not too far away. Now I don’t want bedlam to happen so I’ll put this wonderful food on platters on this table” She indicated with her tongs to a picnic table to her right. “There is more than plenty for everyone, so there’s no need to push and shove.”
Levitating the last platters over to the table, well aware that almost every eye was on her and following her actions.
“All right. Help yourselves.”
And she stood back to watch, and avoid getting trampled.

Post by Jay Rastan on Mar 29, 2007 2:33:29 GMT 10
Jay had been sitting in on his bed completely oblivious to what was happening anywhere else, when his growing stomach reminded him that it was time to go in search of food. Being quite glad he didn’t have to go out and find his own food as his grumbling stomach would give his position away from a distance if he was hunting, he was quite surprised when he saw everyone in a group over near the outside eatery. Decided to go over to investigate as he got closer he could smell his answer.
Food.
Jay couldn’t remember ever moving so fast to the not so far distance, it seemed like in a blink of an eye he had covered the distance, although he only walked very briskly. When he had approached the edge of the crowd he had heard the head of his house start to talk, as he weaved his way, all the while excusing himself quietly, trying to get closer to see if there was a particular reason they were having a get together, aside from the fact it was a Friday night and this could go on well into the night or rather early morning and they didn’t have to worry about getting up early in the morning to attend classes. Jay deemed that more that enough reason to have gathering.
When their house founder asked for applause for her assistant, Marianna, who Jay could now clearly see her a few feet away from Lady Saphricorn, Jay let out a loud wolf whistle that caused his to get a few disgruntled people that were around him that had been temporarily deafened by his whistle, so she sheepishly mouthed sorry and started to move forward to get away from their some annoyed yet some amused looks. Jay moved slightly as what seemed like a herd on younger students surged forwards towards the food, which he just rode in the general direction but stopped just short of Mariana, not exactly sure how to approach her. Jay didn’t like the feeling of second guessing himself on anything, especially girls. Or quidditch. Those two were pretty much on par with each other.
Jay opened his mouth a few times while he was about a foot away, wanting to say something, and he searched his mind, running over things to say all which he deemed incredibly stupid. Just saying ‘hey’ sounded lame, ‘fancy seeing you around here’ was just stupid since where else would he see her? ‘Great work helping’ sounded stuck up and condescending. Jay just couldn’t win, no matter what he thought of saying, and while thinking he nearly managed to blurt out ‘nice socks’ when trying to think of a compliment. All at the same time trying to remind himself not to yell at her when she was standing les than two feet in front of him that had all been very embarrassing the first time around, he didn’t want to send her into hysterics again. His still bruised ego couldn’t handle that a second time around.
All in all, all Jay managed to do was make a awkward sounding squeaking noise after he quietly cleared his throat. Jay had never felt this embarrassed and was already bracing his ego for another fatal blow.
“Um… Er….Oh..Hello?”
Jay was inwardly smacking his head against a brick wall. Repeatly.

Post by Tye Coleman on Mar 29, 2007 12:12:15 GMT 10
The smell was great, Tye didn’t need to know what was cooking, it was food and it was nice smelling food. He lingered for a moment on the scent while Professor Saphricorn addressed everyone. This was the way things should be, everyone together smiling and laughing and having fun together, and not to mention; eating. Eating was one of the most important acts of the day, and was right up there with drinking and breathing.
Tye watched as everyone was clapping, he heard someone would whistle and laughed while cheering himself, not whistling for the looks he could see being given to the whistler by the people surrounding him.
When Saphricorn had finished and everyone started towards the food Tye stood back and waited. He knew that there would be plenty, and there were so many people moving forward now he thought he would be silly to try anything anyway. He grinned as he watched them, the squabble was quite loud and he was suddenly reminded of that time when feeding the chickens was his responsibility. They fed exactly like this. He laughed, though no one around him would have known why…
When at last it was his turn to pile up his plate he did so with the scrutiny of a food critique, there were sausages, steak, bacon, yummmmm what else? “Eggs!” he said scraping from fried eggs onto the edge of his plate before making for the salad bowls. He piled up some Greek salad before retreating, feeling a couple of toes on the backs of his heels as he did so, it was harder to get away from the food then it was to get near it.
“Cutlery…” he said when he realised he had not grabbed any, he looked back towards the designated table and knew that it would be impossible to get in there again, and he was about as daring to approach the table to fetch them as he was to pull a rotten tooth out of the mouth of a vicious horntail. He laughed as he pictured the very action of doing do. Again no one around him knew why he was laughing, but he laughed anyway.

Post by Ireana Queenscove on Apr 16, 2007 19:17:14 GMT 10
Ireana was among the last to reach the table, but, as Lady Saphricorn had said, there was still plenty. Ira grabbed a veggie burger, some bread and large scoops of salad and walked slowly over to a spare seat.
A cool breeze was drifting over the plains tonight. Beautiful Ireana thought, as she ripped off a piece of bread and began to eat. Music was coming from somewhere - she was too relaxed to bother looking for the source. Laughter reached her ears and Iry opened her eyes. A boy she vaguely recognised from class was laughing for seemingly no reason. Tye Coleman, that was his name...
Iry rose and walked over. "Hi, Tye. Any particular reason for laughing?" she asked, and instantly regretted it. I sound as though I'm telling him off - I sound like a seventh year lecturing some first year kid!
A gathering heat on her cheeks told Ira she was blushing. "Sorry, I...erm..." Ira broke off and waited for the glare or sharp comment that would most probably ensue.
