Elphie took a deep breath before taking her first step onto the grounds of Koalingo. Her brilliantly red hair was up in a fashionable bun to keep it out of her eyes with the blowing of the wind. It was also an easy look to stay neat after a day full of traveling. She had, after all, only recently arrived from her home in Norway.
Her 5'3" body was clothed in a pair of somewhat loose jeans and a baby blue polo shirt, which brought out the blue in her wide eyes, as she walked further onto the grounds of her future school. She smiled as the realization as what was happening slowly hit her. She was finally here! Sure, it wasn't like Sanjelford Academy, her old school. Unfortunately there weren't enough students attending this year and the school had to shut down. It saddened the Norwegian to see her school with empty halls and desolate classrooms, but it gave her the opportunity to try something new.
Elphie's smiled broadened as she looked around the grounds. She saw students running around and hanging out under trees. This was it! This was her new home! Those weren't just students, they were her peers! Now she just had to hope her English was fluent enough to understand them...

Jay Rastan couldn’t help but wonder if there were any perks of being a good guy.
It was after all the reason he was waiting around in the courtyard for some new exchange student that Lady Saphricorn had told him to look out for and show around. Although he inwardly wondered why he got shafted this baby sitting duty, he figured this was probably his punishment for skipping those classes a few days ago due to rumors which had now all died down and been replaced with those of some sort of ball to raise the moral of the student body.
’It would have been nice to have been given some sort of description of this kid, or maybe even a rough age. Suppose they won’t be in school robes so that should be a dead give away…’ Jay thought to himself as he stepped looked around the courtyard, his eyes hidden behind his sunglasses to protect them from the glare of the falling sun. All he saw to his right was a pair of boys about trying to dunk another boy’s in the Ameraid fountain. Jay cleared his throat loudly causing the all the trio to look at him, before they paled then bolted into the castle.
Jay couldn’t help but chuckled while he remembered his own behavior being like that in his earlier years at Koalingo, although he never seemed to get caught not that it warranted any further thought he reminded himself as he went back to his original task; tracking down the new student. Looking to his right he saw some, what he guessed were, second and third year students playing some weird throwing game with a quaffle, and some girl standing sticking out like a sore thumb with her wide eyes and looking very much the part of the proverbial deer in the headlights, except for the smile on her face.
Exhaling deeply and deciding to get this over and done with Jay started making his way towards her as he called out.
“You the new exchange or transfer student or something like that?”
Jay just hoped the girl understood English or French, or a rudimentary type of sign language. Nothing seemed to really strike him about her as walked up to her, she was no great beauty of any type nor anything note worthy, not in his opinion. Nor did she stand out obviously as muggle nor did she seem to carry herself in the typical pureblood way, Jay decided to maintain a distance until he was sure what to make of this new person.
‘Just remember to be polite and be quick to find Lady Saphricorn or the headmaster, then she is their problem and not mine and I can return to the plains’

Elphie's gaze quickly focussed on the boy who had just called out, apparently to her. She was the 'exchange student or transfer student or something'. Well.. she was knew.. and she had just exchanged schools and transfered to a new country so yes, that must be her. The Norweigan began walking to the boy, not speaking until she reached him. She found it rude to hold a conversation at such a distance.
"Yes I am." She said with a nod, now standing in front of the boy. He looked, bored, and he probably didn't volunteer to do this, not that she cared. Elphie was hoping to make a friend dispite his not wanting to. "Hei!" She said, greeting him in her native language, though it sounded very close to the casual greeting of her new country, or at least the one she would be residing in.
"My name is Adelphie Krenskiva, but people at home called me Elphie for short. I just arrived from Norway, you are here to give me a hand, yes?" She asked. Her English was good but her accent was thick. She hoped the boy understood what she said, especially because she didn't speak it quickly yet. The immigrant wasn't speaking slow or anything, just not gabbering at the normal pace of teenage girls, which was often faster than the speed of light.

Jay couldn’t help but noticed that when she said what he thought was “Hey” it sounds slightly, mangled perhaps it was her accent. He didn’t know nor did he care he just noticed it sounded a little off. He had been told a few times that Australian’s had accents that rose at the end of every word, Jay thought this was absolute rubbish that he and everyone else spoke perfectly fine and if anyone else had a problem then it was that exactly.
Their problem not his.
He couldn’t help the slight eye twitch when she spoke though; he realized that English was probably not her first language but he couldn’t help it. It always sounded painful to him to hear the English language butchered. Jay did wonder if it was some foreign customer in Norway to say yoru salutations not first in conversation. Strange.
“I guess I am here to give you a hand as you put it” Jay said, looking down at her as she had met him halfway as he had been walking to her, glad he had wore his sunglasses as to cover his eyes as they gave her a dubious once over before deciding it best to just get down to business. The female species had done his head in enough lately he decided the last thing he needed was more grief from one of them.
“Guess it’s nice to meet you Adelphie. I’m Jay. Jay Rastan. Seventh year and a Saphricorn student” Jay said putting out his hand and giving what he hoped looking like a somewhat friendly smile. “The school house elves shall take care of any of luggage that was left at the front gates for temporary storage until you’ve been sorted. That is unless you had an early private sorting..?”
Jay trailed off waiting for a response as he took up looking around the entrance courtyard, the sun had not moved much if at all in its falling down in the sky and yet the shadows seem much longer than moments earlier. He gave a subtle glance down at his watch, realizing he had just over an hour until he had to feed Boris and friends back at the plains. He couldn’t be late for that or Boris would never let him hear the end of it.
Mentally nudging himself to the present Jay forced himself to pay attention to whatever the girl was going to say after all it would do him no good if he was rude, unintentionally of course, due to being a bad mood and she somehow ended up in his house. Knowing his luck it would be possible.
Highly possible.

Elphie couldn’t wipe the smile from her own face. This boy seemed genuinely nice, that or he was being paid or bribed enough to be a very good actor, but even acting nice was better than being rude and uninviting. “Jay!” She said with a smile, almost as if greeting an old friend. In fact, it was more of her indulging in her first acquaintance at the school, as well as her way of putting it into her memory bank for later use. “The pleasure is all mine!” She took his hand in a handshake. Though she was more used to the kissing of cheeks that happened throughout Europe, she could do with the greeting of the country. Elphie did have quite the adventurer in her that made her strive to fit in as well as she could, which reminded her, she had to get her robes out and on as soon as possible.
The teenage witch listened to the rest of what the boy had to say. “Ah, yes, I believe I saw them scurrying out to get my bags when I arrived.” She said with a nod. She had to stop to think about his next question, not exactly as to what the answer was, but how to correctly word it. “Umm.. because I am, transfer student, as you call it, they did a private sorting before now. They put me in a house similar to the one I was in at home. I am a Saphricorn as well. Do I pronounce it right? Saphricorn?”
Adelphie was more than happy that Jay was in the same house as her. She could now have someone to talk to even if she did not meet anyone new today. Also, it made it possible for him to guide her to their house living quarters, not to mention the general area of her new room, which would hopefully contain her belongings by now. She couldn’t help but be happy at times like these that she was a witch. That meant that she didn’t have to worry about electrical outlets or converters or anything of the sort. Neither of her parents had any job in the muggle world or anything, no, the pureblooded witch was just fascinated by muggle items, and therefore made a hobby of learning about all of them.

Jay’s smile slipped slightly as she announced she was in Saphricorn and his eyes widened behind his shades. While part of him wanted to be happy about another Saphricorn student the other part of him wanted to beat his head against a brick wall. Realizing he should have expected it since his House founder had given him a less than gentle speech which could be summed up in “You will do this and you will behave” and he really didn’t have the best luck or any luck lately, nothing could be as clean cut as meet, greet and ditch.
“Well, um, Saphricorn is a great house, not only because I’m in it or anything,” Jay said, trying it inject a little humor into the exchange, not really caring too much if it failed. “Have you been told much about Saphricorn yet? For the record you did pronounce it right. What year are you in anyway?”
Withdrawing his hand from hers were she had shaken it, Jay inwardly groaned, another female in Saphricorn house, great. But was worse was the fact that she was obviously not that much younger than him which meant as he had observed in previous years the girls would have to rearrange their pecking order and whatnot. Jay didn’t want to be anywhere close when that happened. Even thought most of the Saphricorns seemed to think themselves above petty things such as that, they were still only human.
Turning to face the castle that loomed over them, nooks and windows alike thrown into shadow by the rapidly fading sunlight. Looking every bit intimidating but at the same time just as grand and majestic as always, it made Jay smile genuinely. This place was his home away from home and he was more than fond of the castle, it was more than mere stones and mortar, it was memories of good times, and bad. It was as if the castle had a life of its own, taken from experiences of all its inhabitants. Shaking himself mentally, he gestured to the great building in front of him.
“First impressions?”
Jay tried to make himself relax so he could enjoy himself, reminding himself that things would only go wrong if he made or let them and being wound uptight, or acting grudgingly would not help matters any.

Elphie chuckled at his joke, at least, she hoped it was a joke. People who were that cocky had a tendency to get on her nerves. “Ah yes, well I’m sure it is, and if its not, well… I’ll make it a great house!” She said with a nod. She had a very optomistic attitude about the entire situation. Who cares that no one here spoke her native language and that half of them didn’t even know where Norway was on a map, she was here for learning, and maybe a bit of a social life on the side.
“Oh no, not much. All I know it is similar to my house at home, but similar is a very loaded word.” The small girl said in reply to his question. “I am a sixth year I believe. Its not very fun, leaving the school you’ve been at your whole life for another with only one and a half years to go, but you don’t get to choose your situation in life do you?” She said with a shrug to answer her fellow housemate’s second question.
Adelphie walked to Jay’s side as he turned to look at the castle. As she stood there she took the opportunity to take in the grandeur of the school. It was huge, almost medieval, and fabulous. She couldn’t help but be excited that she would partake of the learning process in such an amazing building. She was so enthralled by the school that she almost didn’t hear her welcoming committee’s question.
“Its beautiful.” She said, her gaze not leaving the sight of the academy. “I mean, I can’t believe I will be living is something that… amazing, awe-inspiring really.” She said, finally taking a moment to look at the boy before looking back at the school.
“But I suppose the real question would be: Is it really as great as it looks?” she asked, he must know, he was a seventh year, and unless he transferred here like she did (which, from how he was treating her situation, was doubtful), then he would know plenty about it. “I mean, they say not to judge a book by its cover, but is this one of those exceptional cases where the outside is just a glimpse of the wonders that lie inside?” Sure it seemed like a cheesy loaded question, but one with good reason behind it. Elphie didn’t want her excited nature to be false.

“…I’ll make it a great house”[/b]
Due to his current state of trying to stay out of trouble, Jay decided to best leave that comment along and not bark out a response of that Saphricorn house was fine and always had been fine without this Norwegian bird. Deciding better he just swallowed the comment down silently and fought the urge to just leave her standing there and nodded politely when she stated that was a sixth year.
”Best to make the best of things I guess.” Jay said in a voice which gave the impression he hadn’t meant to say it. “I’ve been at Koalingo from day one and couldn’t imagine completing my schooling anywhere else but here”
Jay did stop a moment and think when she posed her last question to him. Was Koalingo as good inside as outside? Was it as grand? As cultured, imposing, significant, as it seemed to be from its outer looks?
“Yes. I dare to say that Koalingo is one of those cases where special places that looks amazing on the outside, and the inside lives up to it as well.” Jay said, his voice was a warmth to it that many did not know he could express. “I mean were some people might think something is a blemish or a mar on the castle, Koalingo wouldn’t be Koalingo with out them? Get what I mean? Just like people, they have burns, birthmarks, beauty spots and it becomes part of them. A characteristic of them if you will.”
Jay realised he may have been rambling slightly but he really didn’t care, Koalingo was like his home away from home, after the house in Paris, the townhouse in London, the cottage in Florida…well it was one of his many homes away from homes, but that didn’t make it any less special than any of the others.
“I think if you truly open yourself up and let yourself Experience Koalingo in all its many facets then you could quite possibly have the time of your life here. Its more about just a high level of education.”
Jay didn’t think he could do Koalingo true justice but he had tried but the building was so much more than just a building to the students, and everything was more than face value around the castle, you just sometimes had to look deeper and a little harder to discover what was truly behind it.
