Jack landed on the cold stone courtyard with his nose burning. He was not supposed to be out after dark but as it was Saturday night and everyone else was at Bloodlust night club at the dueling night, which he had left from early; there was no curfew and the only person that told him not to be out after dark was his mother, and she was not really here to enforce it so it didn’t really matter.
Jack stepped off his broom and cupped his hands over his nose. He didn’t understand how it could be summer, and so warm during the day, but have temperatures drop so low at night, and on top of that, the only way back after dark was flying your broom or climbing. Unless you wanted to catch public transport like everyone else, which didn’t suit him as he didn’t really want to be seen out.
He rubbed his hands together and cupped them over his nose again. It was burning so much, he knew a spell that could fix it, but he also knew there was no way his hand would be able to combat the complex wrist movement while it was so cramped. And so he decided to do it the traditionally muggle way.

“What are you doing out here, Emerindyl?” Paulk drawled as he had witnessed the Emerindyl first year flying into the castle on his broomstick. Everyone was supposed to be at the duelling night, and everyone who wasn’t usually went to the three broomsticks instead, where the waitress there put on a wizarding chess tournament to try and get the customers that could not go to Bloodlust. It hadn’t been as efficient at emptying the castle, but the Academy was thoroughly empty tonight.
“Shouldn’t you be in the village with your other dirty blood friends, or in your common room sulking over having no life because you’re a mudblood and you cant get into Bloodlust like the rest of us,” Paulk felt no need to point out that fact that he was not at Bloodlust. He had another task to perform.
He sneered at the first year wanting more then anything else for him just to go away. Paulk had something he had to do, and it was important that it happened tonight. “Well?” he said staring the boy down with what he hoped was a look that would make him buckle at the knees and run off as first years usually did.

Audrey had been waiting for Jack to arrive back at the castle. He had been gone longer than expected and she'd been waiting in the entrance courtyard in the darkness. Jack had not yet seen her and she had been about to step into the light when the older Ruberagon student appeared.
She was annoyed, if only because the Ruberagon saw Jack as a first year Emerindyl, not what he really was. Still, they could make the most of this opportunity. With that thought in mind, she stepped out of the shadows, wand behind her back and touched Jack's elbow lightly.
"Paulk Parish, isn't it?" she asked the older boy, not expecting an answer. It was a pointless question really, for she knew exactly who he was, and she'd been following his movements for a while. She hadn't however seen that he wasn't at Bloodlust that night. The duelling competition had given them the perfect cover for Jack's trip, but she had not counted on his showing up.
"Jack, he's on the list" she said simply, knowing he would know exactly what she was talking about.

“I know,” Jack said as he looked at the Ruberagon and then to his wi… to his friend, “It is written that he would be here at this precise moment,” Jack said as he looked from the Ruberagon to his friend and then back to the Ruberagon. He looked him over and a look of sorrow appeared on his face.
He didn’t like what he had to do tonight and was still not completely convinced that it was necessary, this boy could not be more then sixteen years old, “I don’t see why this is necessary, he doesn’t look like…” he didn’t finish his words, knowing he’d regret them if he did.

"You must do it Jack, you must," she urged him. She knew her hu.. her friend would not want her to do the task set for them, and for her to do so and take over would most likely shame him. But the task needed to be carried out and so her duty was to encourage him.
"It needs to be done, the consiquences are too dire for us to ignore such an opportunity." she continued. Her voice was barely audible, even on this silent night. There was something strange about the two of them, as any onlooker would note. They certainly didn't act like eleven year olds, and there was something strange about their eyes, almost as if the pair of them had seen too much, their innocence was gone.
"Of course he doesn't look capable, that's why nobody ever stopped him before. Do it Jack, do it, think of the innocent people..." she finished, quietly.
