Belle had been watching and listening the whole time, and she didn’t think the clerk was being rude. She knew this was probably standard procedure and thought it was Lara who was acting as if she was better then the clerk. All the same, Belle did not want to cause waves and stood silently while the girl went on about how much wealthier she was then the rest of them. Belle was not the jealous type, but she doubted very much that this girl appreciated any of the garments she had just purchased, and wondered if she would even wear them all.
Belle nearly choked when she heard how much all the clothing was costing the Watt girl. It was a hefty sum of money and much more then she had saved for the broomstick she was about to purchase. She suddenly felt cheap and wondered if she even wanted to buy the broomstick anymore. Maybe she should save her money and buy something more expensive; only the next broomstick up was twice more expensive then what she had; she’d never save the money.
“No I think I’m finished,” she said without betraying her feelings of agitation for what she had witnessed. She kept her pack securely with her at all times as she moved out of the store and stopped to wait for the others. Her mind wandered to thoughts of Bailey. Where was she? Why would she leave her to be with these people on her own? She felt so out of place.
