“I don’t know if this is a very good idea, Alex” Shane said as he pushed the cow that was bellowing loudly and not seeming to want to play their little game. They had managed to rustle a cow from one of the local farms… which was a feat in itself as the closest farm was some one hundred kilometres away, but one hundred kilometres was nothing when you had a couple of broomsticks and a real resolution.
See, the aim of their night time excursion was to ‘liberate’ a real cow from the farm and being it to the kitchens where the house elves couple provide them with fresh milk for their cereal every morning. The only problem with that was that the cow was very slow, didn’t like to play along, and on top of that, they had to go past the Koalingo School pools and the animal did not appear to like water.
“Its alright, it is only water, and if you don’t fall in, it wont get you,” Sane said as he gave the cow a great heave. This was not a good idea though. The cow broke away from him and tried to run away. This was an even worse idea though as the cow slipped on the marble surrounding the pool and fell in with a great splash that covered Shane in water.
“Oops,”

SPLASH
Melanie was covered in water too. Her mouth open in an incredulous smile, she stared at Shane. The poor cow had freaked out and landed in the pool. Of course they'd have to get the darn beast out now, but the situation was, quite frankly, hilarious. She was surprised half the school wasn't out here wondering what all the commotion was.
It had seemed like a good idea when Shane suggested liberating the cow, and though she still agreed that it was, she wondered how on earth they were going to get the cow out of the water. And would it be too stressed to give them milk in the end?
The cow was still struggling in the pool, and unsure if cows could even swim, Melanie decided that the best thing to do of course would be to jump in after it. And so she did.
Little did she realise just how heavy cows were, and how violent they were when scared. After a few good kicks from the beast, Melanie waved at her Saphricorn friends for some help.
"Come on!" she cried at the cow who was making an awful gurgling sound while trying to moo.

Grinning, Alex stood with his hands on his hips watching it all. He loved hanging out with the Saphricorn’s. Things like this always happened and he couldn’t say he didn’t enjoy it one bit.
“Well this is just great, isn’t it?” he laughed as he looked at the cow, not being able to contain himself he had started to laugh and was now doubled over holding his stomach to stop it from hurting too much. It could not have gotten anymore funnier, honestly it could. The cow… the Saphricorn’s… all of it.
“Well it was a good idea in theory,” he said sitting down by the pool and dangling hist feet in the water. He had tears in his eyes now and sitting down was about the best he could do to stop himself from falling over.
That was about the time Melanie jumped into the water. Alex stopped laughing long enough to give her a look that said quite clearly, ‘I’m-not-getting-in-there’ it was all so funny. All of it. But he had heard about cows and was in no hurry to get kicked, underwater or not, he was sure the big fat beast could pack a wallop and he had no intentions of getting on the receiving end of it.
“When did you become a muggle, Melanie?” he said whipping out his wand. “Levitation charm perhaps? The three of us should be enough to do it… combined,”

The cow was still splashing and struggling in the water. Laughing and almost choking on the water, she doggy-paddled over to where Alex was sitting, his feet dangling in the water. Grabbing his ankles, she grinned and got ready to pull him in. Whether he would allow it was up to him of course, but she could easily do so.
They could worry about the cow in a minute, it seemed to be doing alright. Besides, she and Shane were already wet, why shouldn't Alex join them? She splashed water at him as a warning of her intentions.

Shane was not quite as accommodating as his female counterpart however and he walked up behind Alex, put the flat of his foot on the top of Alex’s back, and with relative ease. Sure not to jolt him as he did it. He pushed Alex in the water where he would quite likely land on top of her.
“Oops, did I do that?” he laughed watching the two now in the water before walking back, taking a run off and bombing into the pool not a foot from where they were, so that they would get as splashed as they could get.
When he resurfaced, the sound of a mooing cow met his ears. He didn’t think the cow appreciated being splashed and when Shane looked at it, he could see that it was now making its way slowly back to the shallow end where it could easily get out of the water without their help.
Alex fished around in his pockets and noticed his wand was gone. He looked around for a while and could see a long dark silhouette on the bottom of the pool. He dived down to retrieve it and came up holding the wand aloft. It didn’t feel like his own, but it was good enough for the time being.
“Aguamenti!” he chanted and a jet of water issued from his wand aimed at Melanie and Alex. If they wanted wet, a soaking in the pool would simply not be enough. He laughed manically as he aimed at them.

Melanie squealed as she went under. She was still gripping Alex's ankles, so when Shane pushed him over the edge she went under too and came up spluttering. Her clothes were dragging her down and her arms were starting to get tired from the heavy folds of material that engulfed her, but she was having too much fun to care.
The place was deserted and dark, and the sounds of their voices echoed through the place. It was an odd time to be at Koalingo, during the night hours, it was so peaceful, yet it was never completely still.
The stream of water hit the water in front of her and Alex and rebounded off the water, splashing her in the face. Melanie didn't bother getting her wand out. Instead, she pushed off against the side of the pool and jumped on Shane, dunking him under the water with the weight of her.

"You know, I thought I could come for a midnight swim, have some time down time to relax, re-run the day through my head and dissect it all when I walk into a scene like this" Jay said, his voice seemed to almost boom off the walls and echo in the room as he held back a laugh at the scene in frotn of him.
Jay was leaning against the door arch looking at his two fellow Saphricorns and Alex Zander, all the while shaking his head. Having thought the school halls to be empty he hadn't thought he would run into anyone for them to be insulted by his current state of half dressed attire consisting of his board shorts, flip flops, while his towel was hanging limply around his neck. He had expect a quietness, not loud laughing that almost drowned out the noise of moo-ing from a cow...
Jay did a doubt take.
"Why is my dinner tomorrow's in the swimming pool? Last time I checked steak was served with gravy and vegetables, not waterlogged and with chlorine" Jay asked throwing his towel over one of the sunning chairs that surrounded the pool side.
Standing back out of splashing distance all he could do is shake his head. Did he ever pull any stupid stunts like this when he was their age? Jay was pretty sure he didn't, or at least nothing as stupid as what appeared as trying to drown a cow.

Julian was just arriving on the terraces when he heard the commotion. Although his original intent had been to go and spend some time in the Golden Hall, seeing the great throng of Saphricorn students (and one Emerindyl) bathing with a cow had been too much to resist commenting on. After all, it wasn't everyday that an opportunity to ridicule a group of his fellows presented itself so nicely, at least not privately and out of earshot of the school staff where he would otherwise risk getting caught and have points taken for his cheek.
Coming within no more than five feet of the pool's edge he called down to them, "Well...that would explain the smell in class now wouldn't it? And here, I've spent all of this time at Koalingo and to think I had never once learned the secret to Saphricorn hygiene. How odd." He smiled, no, smirked more like it, and folded his arms across his chest as he watched to see how they would sort out the matter. Glancing over, he saw Jay, a seventh year Saphricorn watching them from a safe distance. Catching the boy's eye he called "And I take it you're the one instructing them in this age-old ritual? Really Jay, with graduation so close I would think you'd be busy turning down job offers. Oh...wait... I forgot. It's you."

"Ease up there Julian," Jay said, still watching the few younger students continue their monkeying about in the pool as the cow started to try to get out but kept losing balance and falling right back in, giving a distressed wailing 'moo' as it splashed about.
"I just came here for a swim and found these guys with a cow. I'm just as confused as to what they are doing with a cow in a swimming pool as you are" Jay shrugged, he had no real reason for conflict with anyone in any of the houses. Jay preferred to stay mutual to all parties, diplomacy was a useful skill if Jay knew nothing else.
"And I think we both know I'm too much of a pretty boy to touch water thats been near any animal" Jay said with a laugh, even if it was at his own expense. "I think that smell you were referring to was from that really bad potion's explosion that happened when I was back in second grade. Whatever it was, still lingers"
Jay couldn't help but laugh at the dig about turning down job offers. Jay, in a rare moment of naivety took the boy seriously before realizing the boy was trying to stir him.
"Job offers, college positions and whatnot come in just after final examinations, just for future reference, Julian. Anyway, say I didn't get any offers, which we both know I will. I could buy my way into any profession, unlike some people in this school"
Jay didn't mean anything by his comment, just stating facts. Turning his attention back to the younger teenagers in the pool.
"You three might want to help the cow out before it hurts itself badly. Then think what Lady Saphricorn would say, out of bed after hours, and with a stolen animal, because you couldn't have taken it from the plains, and then to have it injured." Jay said, looking at them through his friend, with a small grin trying not to sound like he was telling them what to do but rather suggesting the best course of action. "That way I won't have to say what I saw or know, any nobody gets into trouble"
'Why is it there is always someone thinking they have to be mean to other people?' Jay couldn't help but think as he awaiting some action from the three teenagers in the pool.

Post by Mariana Torrenne on Mar 14, 2007 18:53:30 GMT 10
Mariana had heard stories floating around that someone had gone off with an Emerindyl to steal a cow, but she didn’t think this was the reason they would feel it necessary. And when Mariana Torrenne arrived at the school pools by way of the garden path her mouth quite literally dropped. There was something of a small party going on and was that cow actually swimming with them.
Mariana looked mortified at the scene but at the same time her mind could not seem to get over the dilemma whereby she felt the whole thing was just so very funny. And then she saw Jay Rastan chatting with a Ruberagon. This did not improve her mood and the fun of the students swimming with the cow seemed to drain from her mind entirely.
“Oh, what’s your problem, Rastan?” she started on him almost at once when he told the other three to stop having fun and get the cow out of the pool, “What if the cow likes the pool huh? And by the looks of it, these three are having fun. What have you got against fun anyway?” he eyes glanced the Ruberagon and then it dawned on her, “Oh I get it, you don’t want us to embarrass you in front of your Pure-Blooded Pal here?”
She didn’t give him a chance to retort. She dived into the pool with all of her clothing on to join in with the others of her house. If Jay Rastan wanted to spend time chatting with his Ruberagon mate then he was welcome to it. Mariana Torrenne was going to have fun with her own house friends. Unlike Jay she understood where her loyalties were best spent.

For once in his life he wished the ground would open up and swallow him whole. Now he had thought on the conversation of a few mornings past with Mariana he understood what had irritated her; his comments about the Ruberagons.
"Did you ever stop to think why I said what I did the other morning, Mariana?" Jay asked running a hand through his hair in frustration, leaving it sticking up in all directions.
Jay didn't know why she had taken his comments the wrong way. He couldn't exactly say that all Ruberagons were evil spawn could he? Hell, his parents had both been Ruberagons, not to mention every other family member had been members of that house also. It often put him in the position of between a rock and a hard place, or in a battle he just couldn't win.
The cow was still distressed from its obvious state of panicked and frantic mooing, not to mention its continued attempts to scramble out of the pool.
Watching as Mariana resurfaced, Jay looked a little lost. He didn't know why this girl who was seemingly at one point a friend was now treating him like he was below her.
"Does the cow sound like its having fun? I don't think so. And I have nothing against fun as long as it is for all those involved" Jay said looking her in the eye, "Juian is not my, what was it you said 'pure-blooded pal', but you know what, even with his snide remarks his still being more civil than you are Torrenne"
"You know, for someone who supposedly hates Ruberagon's and who gets teased by them, you're acting exactly like they do towards people not of pure blood." Jay shook his head "You would think you would know better having been on the receiving end of it.."
Jay just continued to look at her, tryign to maintain eye contact. He wasn't being mean, nor did he want to or have a reason to, he just wanted her to understand.
She had to understand.

"Oh get a spine Rastan," Melanie called to Jay as she dog paddled and playfully splashed Mariane with water. Those two always seemed to be so upset with each other, and while Melanie really couldn't blame Mariane, (Jay did have some odd attitudes for a Saphricorn) she sometimes just didn't get why Jay was even in their house.
She looked down the pool to the cow. Sure, it was still mooing, but that was probably from just being wet and in a foreign place. It was now standing in the shallow end, pulling and eating some weeds that had grown over the edge.
"You know, we were just having some fun and here you two go" she said, addressing Jay still, but now also Julian, "Spoiling all of it as usual!" she rolled her eyes. She was so sick of people and their attitudes to Saphricorns, and she was especially sick of seeing Mariana so upset at the things that Jay Rastan said to her. Though it was not usual for her to be so aggressive, she was very protective of her friends and felt the older boy needed taking down a peg or two.

"I need to grow a spine? I'm not the one who has a problem standing up for myself or my friends if they need it" Jay retorted feeling annoyed more than ever at this little girl who thought she knew anything about him even if she was in her house.
"I'm not trying to spoil your fun. Hell, its a feat of something, whether it is stupidity or amazing planning I'm not quite sure at this moment! Why don't you get I'm not trying to spoil your fun? I don't want to spoil anyone's fun" Jay said, throwing up his hands, knowing if he hadn't been in the company of females, he would have swore.
Why was it that everyone pick him out to play the villain all because he wanted to be on good terms with everyone. Where would being mean get him? In the same boat as the Ruberagon purists. Arrogant? That Ameraids, sometimes, or Ruberagons. Forthright? Wasn't that Emerindyl's side of the coin? Saphricorns...well everyone had a different point of view what a true Saphricorn was? Unintelligent? Over sensitive? Punch line to jokes? None of these really described what it really was ot be a Saphricorn.
Everyone seemed to think of Saphricorns as the left overs, the ones who weren't suitable to any other house, but Jay knew that wasn't true. There was something about them all as a group would have in common, maybe it was loyalty, or maybe it was something so uniquely Saphricorn.
"And they say Saphricorns are meant to stick together, like we all know how to stick together. All that unity rubbish they keep trying to fill in our heads. We all turn our backs on each other for someone else without knowing whats going on" Jay muttered to himself in a low tone that he was sure nobody would over hear.
Jay just shrugged wondering why he even bothered. Why he choose to try to be friendly to people he knew didn't respect him as a person. And he couldn't help but noticed the nagging voice deep down that reminded him if he had pulled out the Ruberagon sword, he would have been respected by his own fellow house members.

“Not standing up for my friends? What do you call what I just did Rastan?” The older Saphricorn irritated her immensely. He had upset her friend a few times, and he never seemed to fit in. He obviously thought very highly of himself and that irritated her too.
“Angst angst angst” Melanie sighed and pushed back off the wall of the pool, swimming frog-like on her back, her robes spreading out under the water. “Saphricorns do stick together, because everyone treats Saphricorns like dirt. Are you sure you weren’t put into the wrong house? Cause you certainly don’t act like one of us.”
With a smirk on her face, she drifted back over to the side of the pool. Jay hadn’t been friendly, he’d made them all feel like idiots for having fun, and worse, he’d made them feel like they were being cruel to an animal, something no Saphricorn would intentionally do. The very fact that the cow was munching away happily down the other end was testament to that.
She brought a hand back and swept it forward, splashing water out of the pool and onto the older Saphricorn boy. “I think you need some serious lessons in chilling out”

Jay couldn't help but let out a laugh. It was like a ant trying to fight a dragon, and as much as Jay usually liked to back the underdog... sometimes the underdog needed to be taught a lesson, for example, don't play with those out of your league.
"Was I saying that you particularly were not sticking up for your friends, Grundlebaum?" Her name almost coming out in a sneer. "And what I call your previous actions? Let me think a moment?"
Jay at this stage pulled out his wand from the waist band of his shorts. Jay never went anywhere without his wand in a easily accessible position. Twirling his wand around his long fingers, while looking contemplative all the while.
"Oh yes, your previous actions were a mistake" Jay flicked then slashed his wand in a circular motion "glacialis"
Jay watched his handy work as the water surface stopping mid rippled and froze, closing the people, and cow, in the ice leaving no room for movement. Jay wasn't scared of them being too cold considering they all were fully clothed.
"You did tell me to chill out didn't you? I do hope its to your satisfaction." Jay laughed his normal good natured laugh before squatting down at the end closest to Mariana and Melanie. "The other houses treat Saphricorn's like dirt because they get away with it. Nobody can make you feel inferior to them, unless you let them. Thats how bad people get away with bad things, you have to remember that to succeed, to take away the sting of the burn."
Straightening back up and looking at everyone in the frozen over water with what was hopefully a friendly look before walking over to get his towel of the sun chair he had thrown it on previously.
"Just for the records, I don't know why I'm in Saphricorn, obviously there is something in me that is in you also. Maybe its the spirit of the fight that is in us that makes us all Saphricorns. Maybe I don't outwardly appear to be a best candidate for Saphricorn. Look at the track record, on both sides of my family I'm the only one to not be sorted into Ruberagon." Jay said, knowing that it would have to give them something to think about and hopefully Mariana would realize just exactly why he didn't have a problem with Ruberagons.
"The charm will wear off in five minutes, or if anyone's heart beat drops dramatically, and not a moment before" Jay said before waving over his shoulder as he made his way out out the pool room. "Have a nice night."
And with that he was gone.
